Obviously I can only speak for myself but rather than reading papers I prefer the works of Franz Kafka and Feodor Dostoyevsy> I find they stimulate the intellectual discussions common in the electricians cabin, well their books and the girl on the bait wagons norks are regular topics
 
Except to posh girls! We are not to their standard as we dont work in an office lol.
My girl thinks my job is cool ;) shes hates me talking about work though haha apparently i bore her :(

My wife is always asking me why I'm telling her about cable runs, socket locations etc. She used to listen and pretend to be interested but now I think maybe she's had enough. Mind you, the other day SHE told ME what size breaker to use on a job. And she was right. So I suppose she must listen to what I tell her each night!

Haha my girl still dont know the colours. She constantly thinks brown is earth.... because its a mud colour -.- ... so she ignores what i say to her lol. She is only interested when their is a hole in our ceiling where i still havnt put a light ! ;)

Everywhere i go... holiday...out for meals.... i have the urge to look at the electrics and moan about it, and tell the other half why its wrong haha. Your not the only one mate trust ;)
 
hmmmm! A thread hailing the DIY theme....well i never.... yrs of people been shot down in flames and now you want to be one because it might get you a ride on the furry burger.

My former boss is a plumber, and according to his wife when they were in a restaurant on their honeymoon he went to the toilet and was there ages, because he had taken a panel off the wall and was inspecting the plumbing!
 
Mrs Trev is sick of me inspecting electrics when we're out, we took the kids to the fair a few years ago and she got so fed up with me criticising she threatened to hit me
 
Honestly Strop it was a nightmare, multiple cables through one gland. IP ratings seriously compromised and in an attempt to fix them they'd used Asda carrier bags. SWA with no glands at all, bare conductors on show. How the hell they get away with it I'll never know, it's a permanent fair too not one of these travelling jobbies

Nothing like working in an industry to ruin all enjoyment of any activity that involves it...

Since working as a sound engineer and lighting tech, I've been unable to go to a concert, musical or nightclub without checking out the PA system and lights!

Almost got kicked out of a nightclub a few years ago... I was standing near the dancefloor looking up at the lighting rig for ages. Bouncers thought I was stoned!

Ive never been anywhere yet where i have found nothing wrong. There is always a lamp out at least :)

Hahaha, bit much that.

Can just imagine me taking our lass out for a meal with a pair of ladders and inspecting the earthing to metal light fittings and the like...

Deary me, did your old boss get divorced soon after that lol?

There's a guy in my town who I hate with a fiery passion (why is another story) he's incapable of taking time off. A few years back his wife gave him an ultimatum, either he went on holiday with her or she'd go on her own and leave him when she got back so he went off to Toremelinos. One morning she woke up and he wasn't in bed so she went off looking for him, there he was on the balcony with a set of drawings in front of him pricing up a job. He's always been a dick.
 
I now feel a sense of relief after reading this thread
So its not just me that do these out of hours inspections,sad isn't it?

Get yourself to Vegas guys. You spend the full time thinking - how have the done that/ how's that wired/ how does that work. Etc etc etc.
and then when you see the guys crawling along the cables on the pylons, stepping onto them off a helicopter with their faraday suits on, makes you think - what they earning, do I think I could do that? (The answer is no)

yeah...but as long as your bringing everything to the same potential Archy...thats what that `wand` is all about....plus the clamp they throw over the cable to keep the potential difference at 0 (once the wand has done its job)...
the only real risk these guys face is falling....
