I am moving to Gibraltar at the beginning of February and am looking for any information or contacts on the best way of finding work as an electrician. If you have worked or are working there any info would be appreciated. All the local agencies don't really deal with construction labour so I assume it would be a walk of shame with a pile of CV's to hand out?

Thanks,

James

If they are anything loke the UK agencies they will bin your paper CV as soon as you are out the door.
They have so many in e mail, electronic so cant be arsed scanning.
Best of luck out there.
Happy new year.

I did a bit of work there last year for Gibtel, through our client. Chatting to the contact, it seems there's a few family electricians firms, but all of the big stuff is contracted out to major internationals. Hope it goes well for you!

Perhaps you had better take another look at just how small Gibraltar is!! Mainly made up of offshore financial businesses and a bit of tourism etc. First time i was in Gibraltar i got a shock, thought i was still in India, as every single shop i went into was owned and run by Indians. In fact out of all the main shopping drag road, only one cafe type bar was run by a British local.

Anyway back to your quest to find enough work to keep your head above water. To be honest i think you may find that difficult, sticking solely to electrical work. You may have to diversify and take on any work that becomes available to you.
