    Max Zs value for MCCBs

With the Amtech Fastest it automatically fills in BS 60898 and BS 3871 MCB’s, BS 88 fuses but not BS 60947 MCCB’s. To get the unusual fuses, MCCB’s ACB’s you need the Amtech Single Line Calculator. If you get the budget version of Amtech Fastest, it is not included. Get the mid-cost or the...

    Max Zs value for MCCBs

The max Zs is because it’s the device manufacturers specification. I write EICR’s using the Amtech Fast test software (now known as Trimble Fast Test) So long as you don’t have the budget version it comes with the their single line calculator. Using single line calculator you can do the cable...

    obscure regs

I'm writing an EICR in a department store in London one of the section boards has a sub-main made up with 4 x single core 95mm MICC cables. I have snagged that the gland plate is steel and there are no slots in place to counter the eddy currents. (the loading is only 15 amps per phase when...

    MCB Locks

ok, That makes sense, however the DB is an Merlin Gerin Isobar 4. and as this DB has MCB isolators the tenant could disconect the load and the isolate the circuit. the whole thing about stop people tampering with the metering is a bit of a mute point as the tenant is a housing assiation, and...

    Hilmor conduit bender

The twin former bender looks good, but in reality the second former and double stop gets in the way. if you go for the traditional shotie bender you won't go to far wrong.

    MCB Locks

Hi Guys, as I've just started full time testing I've ssen a few strange things. Today I was doing yet anothe EICR and found 3 SP MCB thjat were "Locked ON" I was told by the maintenance sparks that "so the tenants don't tamper with the metering the MCB's were locked on" (there were CT's...

    Fire alarm feed

Cheers Lenny, by the sound of things the wiring is correct. They have a 2.5 T&E supplying the isolator which then is wired in MICC to the spur and panel. oh well never mind however I have snagged them on discrimination 5 amp MCB in the DB and a BS1361 15amp fuse in the Isolator :-) has...

    Fire alarm feed

Hi Guys, Is there a reg stating that a Fire alarm must be supplied with a fire proof cable? I did a EICR today and the building has a sub main in 2.5 T&E in a metal trunking to a fuse isolator then MICC from the isoator to the local spur (10 meters away) which was local to the panel I have...

What are these brushes or rings in AC generator for?

basically the red and blue cables are rotating. these are connected to the slip rings which are also rotating. the cable taking the elec-trickery away from the generator does not move. the brushes simply transfers the power from a moving slip ring to a stationary brush.
