Hi all, I have had an electrician round doing some rewiring. Whilst most seems good i have had a few problems with him crossing lives and neutrals, connections coming apart and a broken pump (blew whilst he is working here says it was nothing to do with him though). I am trying to persevere...
28. Which one of the following is not considered when calculating the minimum current carrying capacity of live
conductors of a cable?
a Ambient temperature.
b Grouping.
c Type of protective device.
d The maximum permitted volt drop.
Hi,
Newbie here so please bear with me if I haven't provided all the details. I am not an electrician but my dad was and my cousin are so I know a few things. My dad has retired now but my cousin is qualified and will do the work for me when he eventually comes round. I need to have everything...
Hi folks,
I recently got a 26 year old hermetic A/C compressor. I plan to use this as a vacuum pump mostly for some of my hobby projects after adding an air filter and a moisture removal setup to it.
The specs on the label on the A/C said that it power draw is 2450 Watts, 11.5Amps.
Does it...
OK I'm prepared for the usual onslaught so here goes...
I recently bought a clamp meter Uni-T UT210E.
The first thing I did was check it out against my trusted AVOs and also a couple of other cheapo DMM's, (measure current through wire through probes and compare to clamp reading). The clamp is...
Hi guys,
Just after a bit of clarity. After installing an energy logging device as per a client’s request we have highlighted that we have over 200A difference between L1 to L2 and L3. The supply is a big commercial science building with 400A per phase.
This isn’t due to inrush and is...
Hi Everyone,
I would like to confirm a question I saw the other day regarding working out the residual current on an RCD
The question was similar to the following
An earth electrode has been measured and the following readings were taken
1) 21 Ohms
2) 21.02 Ohms
3) 20.8 Ohms
What is the...
How much current capacity can handle in a 16 sq. Mm. Wire size in ac 415 volt supply?
Because i have 2 pump motors that will connect to a power source of 415 volts ac 3 phase; 1 motor is 5.5kilowatts and another one is 7.5kilowatts. Both motors will run intermittently and supplying different...

hi,
I’m doing some revision and I can’t quite understand working out the resistance of a circuit or the supply current. Could some one please help and explain how it would be done please?
I have attached a photo of the network and the question.
Thanks
I think I must be missing the blindingly obvious, but.....
TT system......100ma time delayed as main switch, then some final circuits (which will require 30ma RCD as includes sockets etc)...then 30ma RCD for other final circuits...
Prior to changing CU at customer's request to include 100ma...
So I was in a new build today - signed off 3 months ago...
No surface trunking, all cables in walls and ceilings ..... the OCPD's for circuits 1 to 3 look wrong to me
Discuss!
Hi.
In my lounge, I have 3 single gang switches which control a ring of GU10 downlights. I would like to substitute one the switches for a smart home switch, so that I can turn the lights on and off using a phone app. The model I am interested in is the wifiplug glass +. The literature states...
