    RCD Tripping times question

A few 30mA RCBO's that i have tested recently are tripping lower at x1 than they are at x5, e.g 13.1 x1 13.8 x5, I know both these results comply but im curious does any one know why the 1 times trip is lower than 5?

    0.4 seconds or 5 seconds

Just a quick question. This might sound like a stupid question so apologises. I'm slightly confused with the regs 18th edition when it comes to disconnection times. So I was taught in college that in the 17th edition that when a circuit is less than 32A then the maximum permitted time is 0.4...

    UK MCB type confusion.

I've noticed at my grandparents house that all the MCB's in the consumer unit are all type C, every single one of them. Including the ring final circuits and lighting (there's no fluorescent lights in the house at all). The house isn't that old as well. Maybe about 16 years old. With me being a...

Tripping times for a 100mA RCD?

Could anyone confirm if we test 100mA RCD's at x5? There is a lot of information on the web that says you only test at x1 but Table 3a in appendix 3 clearly shows a max disconnection time for a 100mA RCD at x5 to be 40ms. Thanks all.

    RCD tripping times exam question

I sat the 2394 written exam tonight and one of the questions was about testing a 30mA RCD. It asked which tests you would carry out and the permitted tripping times. I answered that at 30mA and 150mA it was equal to or less than 300ms and 40ms respectively. Which I believe to be within those...

RCD tripping times at 1x and 5x

I understand that when carrying out RCD testing an RCD should trip within 300ms at 1x and 40ms at 5x but is it common that on occasions for the RCD to trip quicker at 1x than 5x. I never had it occur personally. I am just looking at some old certs and on some circuits the RCD is tripping...

    poor rcd tripping times

Hi all After having the shower circuit upgraded to 10mm cable, new shower and pull switch the tripping times recorded for the existing rcd are as follows. 76ms x1 65ms x1(180) 28.6ms x5 38.3ms x5 (180). These times appear not to meet the standards for the minor works cert and im after...

RCD tripping times, 0.4 or <200 etc.....

I always been told that an 30m/A RCD should trip within 200m/s (x1) and 40m/s (x5). But something iv never taken much notice of before is on test sheet the maximum disconnection time of a circuit less than 32A is 0.4. So....which is it? within 0.4 or within 200m/s????
