Thank you for your questions.

City & Guilds and/or EAL exams are structured so that a pass can be as low as 60%.

However, in our opinion you should be aiming for much higher than 60% and as such have structured the training so that candidates will NOT be put forward for exams until they have consistently achieved 75%. This method of online delivery of the 17th edition wiring regulations (2382-15) resulted in over 99% success rates and we should imagine that this will be similar when candidates undertake 18th edition wiring regulations (2382-18).

RUSTON, Yes, it may seem like a cliche claiming over 99% success rates, however, we cannot claim a lower percentage just to make it appear more realistic etc. The fact remains, that over 1000 students had similar training on 17th edition and only 2 failed which were largely due to language barrier once investigated.

It is what it is, we offer 18th edition wiring regulations online including exam for £240 and candidates should ensure that they have copy of 18th edition wiring regulations before embarking on this course so that the candidate can navigate their way around the regs which will enable them to successfully complete the 18th edition on their first attempt.

I paid to do the 17th Edition with XS Training, the online learning was with Virtual College. Although I had no issue with the delivery of the learning, I never got a chance to actually go and sit the exam as when I rang the NICEIC to book they said their only available centre was in Luton. I'm in Essex and it was too far for me to travel so I never could go.
But if anyone's looking to book the 18th with XS then I fully endorse them.

Is it possible to just do the exam and not the course?

That would be my preferred option too as I'm fed-up having to shell-out hundreds of pounds and lose hundreds more as the consequence of having to take two or three days off work. I'm sure I won't be the only one who has these issues.

I wonder just how much of 18th edition course will contain content that we already studied when we did the 17th edition course. I'm more than happy to study whatever additional 18th edition material I need to study in my own free-time then go to straight to the exam if at all possible. I don't particularly fancy sitting in a classroom for three days re-learning what I already know and paying for the privilege.

Does one have to do the exam? Surely being aware of the changes, working by them and having the book is evidence that you know what you are doing! If you work for yourself, does your scheme have any right to demand that you have a ‘qualification’ even though you could demonstrate in your assessment that you know the changes and are practicing them?

We seem to be in a lemming type movement of spending money, our hard earned money, for a course on how to use an index (I know it’s been said before but as I’ve got 2382-15, I have a right to say it!)

Totally agree and appreciate with the many comments made, however, we do not make up the rules and even though there are minimal changes from the 17th to the 18th edition, candidates will still need to sit the full two hour exam as there is not an update exam as there was from 16th to 17th edition in 2008. Therefore, even though some centres are offering an update course, you will still need to sit the full two hour exam...

We have put together a full course on the 18th edition which will be suitable for those who are already familiar with the 17th edition amendments etc and for those who are not. We are offering this at a reasonable price of £240 which includes exam at over 30 locations throughout the UK. We offer many more locations to take the exam than our competitors and offer a real alternative to many other reputable training providers who offer fewer centres to take the final exam.

Yes, it is in fact "for only" £240 plus vat.

There are cheaper alternatives and many more much more expensive alternatives, you decide. However, we have a proven track record of over 99% success rates based on the earlier 17th Edition and we believe we have priced this very competetively whilst offering over 40 locations throughout the UK to take the final exam.

Hi, we are not going to state that no one has failed if this was not the case. We cannot possibly rig the results as the candidates are taking the exams at various locations throughout the UK and we have absolutely no control over the exam results etc.

100% success rate is what we have to date with independent exam centres throughout the UK.

I should add when I did my 17th (10 year ago, crikey!!) , just after I hit submit on the test the examiner said don't hit submit until I have seen you to review your answers.

Lovely way to treat a forum sponsor!
Sorry wasn't aware they got special attention for ambitious claims. 100% pass rate, sorry but I'm dubious to that as plenty of plonkers will be sitting the course, as well as plenty of knowledgeable folk that will breeze through. 100% pass rate...no chance.

If you are telling me you haven't had at least one person through the doors that is a plonker, then I believe it even less. You could be an epic trainer and tutor, but you always have the plonkers, and even some that want to fail as well. You could have plumbers, builders, time served sparks, Electrical Trainee, or DIY folk. 100% pass rate - that's total pie in the sky unless the answers have been moderated.

At the end of the day it is a multiple choice exam with 60 questions over a two hour period. As long as you prepare for the exam this should not be a difficult task for you to achieve. The 100% success rate is what we fully expected from the course that we have developed. If it was any less than 95% then we would have asked serious questions of our development team. However, it is what it is and we have exceeded our target to date and can only feedback what we have achieved to date.

It is still early days as we have only been offering the 18th Edition Online Course and Exam since July 2018 and have only had around 300 candidates to date that have successfully achieved the 18th Edition via our online learning platform. We also have many more candidates that are currently working their way through the 20 hours or so online learning material and they will be taking their exams in the near future.

At the end of the day, we are not claiming any miracles, we are simply stating that we have developed an online course that allows candidates to study in their own time, take an exam at their preferred location and avoid the unnecessary expense and inconvenience of attending a one and/or three day course of study that is determined by the course provider. The alternative that we offer allows the candidate to choose when and where they study for the exam and also allows them the flexibility to choose when and where they will take the final exam.

What's the point of an exam where nobody fails, if not to make money?

That's not a personal attack on XS Training, but the system is completely flawed. All about making money off the back of sparks, under the guise of being about safety.

If they made it harder people would moan about that. It's only a basic regs course in which you navigate a book. Non sparks do this course too. I'm just gonna do the exam with no additional training.
If you want to see C&G courses with high failure rates, look at the proper old 2391-10 T&I or the current 2396 Design Course :)

I did the 2391-10 so know all about that. A good course in my opinion. Taught me a lot and you only passed it you were good enough to pass in my experience. A lot in my class certainly didn't.

An exam is only worthwhile if it sorts out the competent students from the incompetent. That's the whole point of it. You can't moan it's too hard if it's set at the required standard.

My gripe with the 18th edition courses is they are incredibly easy for an experienced sparks. Easy enough that incompetent sparks/kitchen fitters/diyers can muddle their way through with their hand being held by a training provider only interested in pass rates, not level of competency.
