I have a working circuit setup connecting the CU to a switch and light. I want to add an additional light to this circuit, do it use the Brown or Black as live. See images attached of existing termination and loop.

Do you want your extra light to be separately switched or come on when that one is on?
Are the 3 wires taped up in the first picture new ones you have added?

The short answer is (with the power off) you need to see what (if anything) the brown wire is connected to at the switch.

The first picture (the existing light) looks as though you have a neutral (grey sleeved blue), a switched live (black sleeved brown) and a might-be-permanent-live (brown). But the function of the brown wire can't be verified from the photographs.

The 2nd picture appears to just be a junction box extending the cable.
