Am i able to do this to get zs

I have a fused spur which is for an immersion located in a cupboard. the problem is i am not able to remove the front of the spur to get a ZS reading due to the location of the spur. in the cupboard is a socket which is part of the ring circuit am i able to put a probeon the live in the socket and put the other probe on the screw of the fused spur (taking that it has a cpc connected to it) and use that reading. or do i have to use the same live as well as the earth of the same circuit?

years ago that was a method used, today it is illegal and the modern testers won't allow a plug top lead and a trailing lead to be used together, my view would be if the spur is inaccessable it needs to be moved.

why not get your reading from the terminals on the immersion heater itself? this will prove that the cpc is continuous to the tank.

need to use immersion live and earth just remove cover and test ze at element immmersion switched on of course lol

I was going to unscrew the socket and use probe leads i.e brown probe on live termination screw of socket. and green probe on screw of spur. So would not be use plugtop lead.

So the live/ live and neutral of the same circuit must be used in conjunction with the cpc to get a true ZS reading for the circuit. Nice one i just pressumed i was looking for the earth path alone but needed lives to make my tester work. obviously i would only use the same circuit conductors but due to the circumstance thought i may be able to wrangle it cheers!

Mate you are testing the Zs of an immersion circuit. If you use the live of an adjacent socket circuit along with the earth of the immersion circuit it will never in a million years give you the Zs result for the immersion circuit. It might prove that you have a CPC at the immersion spur but then again so would an R2 using a wander lead. As Tel says test it at the immersion element.

how are you going to measure r1+r2 testing at element is the only way you are gonna get the right reading

Thanks for your reply mate i was asking because i did it and got a zs reading on my tester but wanted to know if the reading was a valid Zs reading cheers!! Zs = Ze + r1 + r2

whichever way you can do it, as long as you know that the points you read from give a true indication . e.g. you could have a cpc at the socket, but not necessarily at the FCU. it could be loose or disconnected. that's why i suggested measuring at the heater itself. then you know it's intact to the point of use.
