now I'm a firm believer in the adage "there's no such thing as a stupid question" but sometimes, well, they just are.

One from the lad this morning whilst looking at a switched fused spur.

"Does N out mean nothing can go in that terminal?"

Still hurts now:D:D:oops::eek:

He will go far that lad!!
At least he asked the question instead of following the other lad round taking out the cable that was incorrectly fitted on all the spurs.

To be fair to him he's been getting shame tourettes all day.

You know the one where something embarrassing comes back to you and you involuntarily utter an expletive and cringe.

He's asked me not to tell anyone.... :D

This coming from the little git that has been telling everyone I went to a special school. In fairness I did point the place out and said I went there, it just wasn't a special school at the time.

Not the dumbest question......However when I was an apprentice we was doing a new build block of 12 flats, the gaffer gave me a drawing and said crack on 1st fixing a flat which was the 1st one that I did on my own from start to finish. Finished up, stood back admiring my work, pleased as Punch! It was at that point I realised I had wired the whole flat ring in 1.5mm 3c+E lol

only the best of us have made (male chicken) up's like that and are able to admit it.
p.s. in my early years i have done similar mistakes.
All part of the learning (or failing) curve.

I once got a lad who had been to college for the last 3 years.

he obviously had never seen a voltage tester / indicator before and had asked what it was I was using.

“ a cable detector “ I said

he proceeded to go around 4 plasterboard classroom walls with both prongs scraping across the walls looking for live cables ?

Yes, I too went to a special school although when I was there it was known as approved.....but then all schools have to be approved, don't they?

Have told this before, not so much asking but doing something dumb. Was in a factory tracing a lost phase and asked the lad to check some BS88 fuses. He came back saying all good. I said are you sure because to me one of those fuses is duff, he rechecked them and no all fine. Not being convinced I checked one and sure enough one was duff, show me how you checked them I asked and he did resting them on top of some galv trunking :D
