Just a quick note to say Hello.

Recently purchased a shell of a property in the Midlands that requires substantial refurbishment.
I will be managing the whole project from the start to finish and was hoping to find some good advice and information with regards to the connection and rewire process.
I'm not planning on doing any work myself, I just want to make sure I get it all done in the right order safely at the right price.
Any advice and tips would be greatly received. Looking forward to meeting some of you in the forums.

Kind regards

where in the midlands? the north midlands is on my patch. anywhere north of stafford. down brum way you have sparkycus.

Thanks Tel the property is Just North of Junc 5 of M6.
I take it that I should sort the Plumbing as best I can before the electrics then.
My first problem on the Elec is the connection. I've been digging around this forum to find some info on the cost/time for connecting a meter as it appears that the Elec meter has either been stolen or removed by the DNO / Elec provider.
I've attached a Pic, I'd be grateful if anyone could shed some light on exactly what is required for starters.
I know I need to get a new 17th edition Consumer Unit and complete rewire, however some historic info on here states that I will need the rewire in place and dead tested before the Meter can be replaced?
Thanks for your comments and advice. http://s25.postimg.org/iwk4cwyun/IMG_0591.jpg

I would consider installing a small temporary board with just the single light and a single socket connected in order to get a connection to the network.
Once you have the connection, you can install the rest of the installation as and when circumstances allow.

You will need a system in place that is certified as safe before the energy supplier will fit you a new meter and energise. However, that doesn't need to be the whole proper final installation, a 'builders board' should suffice, so have one fitted first to get working power on and then go from there. You need to have a design for the finished property for an electrician to work to in order to get the closest to a likely budget - so drawings of rooms, lights, switches and sockets, what's going on in bathrooms (showers/extractors/towel rails etc) and then some idea of a finished kitchen layout. We need to know what the heating system will be and where its being installed. Also think about things external to the building like outside lights, sockets, sheds, garages and so on. It doesn't necessarily all need doing 'in one hit' but the bigger the picture, the more cost effective the solution. And seriously, if Tel is offering, I'd be calling!

Excellent advice many thanks.

For the DNO to provide a new meter, the sparky will need to provide a builders board with a TT earth and a test cert will all the dead tests completed.
If it's a refurb, and not an actual building site then they'll often turn a blind eye to the TT in my experience.
