That depends on so many factors
Type of work (domestic/commercial/industrial)
Area you live in
are 2 points i can think of
I can remember asking brian scadden the same question years ago and he told me the basic thing charge what you need to earn the difference is why should i pay more for the same job thats down to you remeber things do go wrong so price that in your work good luck
Personally I've found it best to do everything on a price..... works out much much better than £xx/hr + mats.
Unless it's a little job on the way home for a bit of beer money
You know brian scadden ?
Yep well the old lady scenario how much ive got zillions but you cant have any
you ve been here ten minutes and you are charging me fourty five quid in my day that would be ten bob,
yes love but i have , well son heres ten pounds for you trouble on your way son
its a mad world but its fun fun
and sorry there is the genine one in which you fill guilty to charge them so your bottom lips wobble and here it comes that will be errr............

I had a call out to a cooker that was not working, that's all the info I had at the time.
As I got in the front door the lady had the catalogue out looking at new £400-£500 cookers, expecting the cooker to need replacing
After a few basic tests it turned out to be the cooker isolator that was faulty, so I replaced for a new one.
Charged £35 call out and £12 for the isolator, she looked at me gone out like I was the most expensive tradesman out there! There's no pleasing some people,
Some people will be more than happy with your prices and others will see you as expensive, you can't please everyone, don't worry about competing with others too much, charge what you think your worth and what you need to earn and stick to it
employed with a bit of overtime here and there around £40k
What area you working in ???? id be gods pocket if i earned tha !!!! lol

I think alarm man is very very lucky and to me the minority, I know many sparks that don't touch that amount self employed, if I could earn 30k employed I'd give my self employed business up straight away.
I agree,.... Not that i being nosey or if its none of my business ....tell me where to go....but as a self employed sparky what figure are you closer to. Just trying to suss out whether being self employed is worth all the hassle . ?
i work the clock, sometimes i wake up not knowing if im tired or dying,
