Best GU10 LED bulbs?

Hey everyone, just wondering what everyone thinks the best LED GU10 bulb is. Factors include: lux, spread, cost, lifespan, colour and size. Also which make of bulb is most equivalent to the 50watt halogen bulb including all the above factors.

5watt kosnic is about equiv. to 35watt halogen. think you need to look at 7watt to get close to 50w halogen performance.

Always thought the kosnic bulbs had a bit of a blue tinge, unless they have updated them. What colours do they do in the 5watt?

higher the w the closer youll get to 50w halogen ive installed 4w leds in mine great light ive installedv 7w in some which were dearer but the wife said they were to brightt cant win the cluster leds are rubbish poor quality

Open ended question: what do you want lumens, spread, cost, lifespan, colour or size; each one has different characteristics for each of the factors.

You could buy a 500 lumen lamp with 30degree beam for £30 lasting five years in cool white longer than standard incandescent.

or you could buy a 300 lumen lamp with 120degree angle for £5 lasting one year in warm white the same size as standard incandescent.

However which one is suitable for your requirements?

Yea i agree. Cluster LED's are terrible. Though i have put the exact same bulbs in 2 pubs and got a terrible batch in one pub, having to change around half of them and the other pub had 20 more bulbs and only had to change one in 2 and a half years!

Im after a bulb thats got a good spread, whilst being quite bright at the same time (equiv. to 35w-50w). Obviously cost is an issue as well.

bought 3 Modoby Megaman today, 10.50 plus vat gu10 par16, very very good light off them, 2 or 3 mm longer than gu10, think they are 4.5 w

The good thing about the tool station lamps is that they are exactly the same size as a GU10

its dark here now, have to say, these MODO warm white leds are as brighht as the rest of the gu 10 s in y lounge, can't dim them though

I have these in my pad, LEDlite LED Dimmable GU10. Come in three shades of white and they are dimmable (excuse me for advertising tlc website, but LEDlite one is down at mo).

We have a Special on this week (until 19th June) on Spectrum 4W Retro's at £5.00 each (here), they're a 35W equivalent and have been very reliable. We've sold just over 17k of them YTD with no issues, previously had Eclipse brand which were double the money and a complete and utter nightmare, 30% fault rate with them.

Well thank you Midwest. I have these GU10 LED bulbs in my gaff. Are they the best? I don't think so but for the cost I think they are about as good a value you can get.

I am dealing with a customer at the moment who is very picky about the colour temperature of the LED bulbs. The cool white looks great but when you star trying to replace a halogen it looks a clinical. Has anyone managed to find true LED halogen replacement? There is a caveat - it has to be under £15 a lamp.

I've been using the Robus 4w versions where applicable, sticking the JCC led3s in now as they're so cheap + 10 year warranty

As for colour temperature, I think the cool white looks so much better where applicable (bathrooms and kitchens especially) and haven't had a customer choose them and regret it yet

The cheapest chinese crap it's possible to buy. Toolstation is the one place that I avoid.

LEDlite at TLC. white in hte bathroom and warm white in the kitchen.

The newest type LED bulbs use SMD chips and I have even heard about COB chips which are like large orange blobs that emit the light. COB stands for Chip on Board. I have put the Robus up against a LightRabbit GU10 SMD and COBs and the LightRabbit lamp looks much better. I just think that the Robus lamps are way behind the times.

following the topic... can you recommend some tested dimmer/led combinations?
used ledlite ane trailing edge before, this time got 4 bedroom rewire and client want all them lights to be spots

Take a look at our site, we fit these in Southampton airport and they come with a 5 year warranty. They are made from aluminium too, not the cheap plastic rubbish.
Whatever you go for, pay attention to the heat dissipation. That’s what’ll make them last. Also if you can find out which LED chip they are using, go for something with Cree, epistar or bridgelux chips.
Also beam angles are important, LED gu10s come with different angles, anything from 60 degrees to 120 degrees is common. The angle you want really depends on the situation they’ll be used in. I prefer wider angles in open rooms, but narrow areas like hallways and thin bathrooms often benefit from the narrow beam angles.

On the advice of someone else on this forum, I tried out the following :-

Megaman 4.5W LED GU10 Bulb Warm White | LEDBulbs.co.uk

They are the megaman brand 4.5w, and I found them to be absolutely superb.
They claim to be equivalent to a 40w lamp, but I would say they are equally as bright as a 50w halogen, when fitted you can barely see the difference, and they are very reasonably priced too at £7.39 each.
I can't comment on the life of them yet, but they do come with a 5 year guarantee, and they are definitely what I will be using and recommending to clients from now on.

I have noticed a lot of cheap imports that probably don't meet standards
More LEDS per bulb do NOT make it better - they are usually the rejects and you cannot get colour consistency ie 54 LEDS etc is nonsense - the light cannot be focussed into a spotlight instead they have clear glass! the light output is all over the place,the better bulbs have 6 to 1 LED ie high output and a lenses for a good cone shape output.

Tested a few leds started with low voltage (you must use a transformer supply or a dedicated driver as electronic balasts will overdrive the bulb and it will fail) mr16 clusters = crap output poor and dont last long

The gu10 cluster version from wingpanpong were the same.

Tried the 3w (3 x1w bulbs) in cool white 4000k mr16 have 9 of these in my bathroom and have been going 3 years now light output about 15w halogen but seem brighter as halogens are a warmer colour

Tried 4w (4 x1w bulbs) in warm white 2700k mr16 light output was similar in colour to halogens and =20w these are still working after 2 years

Just got some 7w gu10s 6000k by megaman been fitted 2 week now light output is clinically white her indoors loves the light (about time I did something right:6 had one pop 7 days after fitting hope this is an isolated issue. also no glass over the reflector

not tried the smd version as it looks naff

well said Eddie , I have had 4 low energy bulbs planted since last year and nothing has grown

Best led lamps i have used are the COB GU10 5.4 watt lamp from light rabbit and if you have any of those large R080 fittings to change a direct led replacment is the 10 watt down light superb fitting very bright with 120 degree beam angle Shop LED Downlights & Dimmable LED Downlighters at LightRabbit UK
