hilti 36v drills are great, longlife and great torque too. Also use milwaukee red 18v range good tools but 2 out 3 batteries for me didnt last 3 yrs...

Personally I swear by Metabo. Can buy for great prices. The gear wears very well, is extremely powerful and with the new 4A/h batteries, you can't go wrong. With a 3 year warrantly on the chuck, trigger and battery. What other brand will give you that. Trusty German technology. Not worth thinking about another brand!

Like Pat Tester, I'm in love with Panasonic
cordless, their Li-ion batteries seem quite small for their A-H rating.
Have a conventional drill-driver, the circular saw for chopping up floorboards and the newish SDS drill.
All are the 14.4 versions with plenty of stamina for a semi-retired sparky like me most of the time.
Also like my Makita 240V SDS for heavier jobs including cutting chases and their tiny 10.8V driver and impact combo.
When the going gets really tough, I call on a 240V Hilti and a 110V Kango.

recently bought an aeg 18volt li-ion drill 'it is utter rubbish it keeps stopping for no reason, sent it back and ordered hitachi, will let you know the verdict

Milwaukee are really good, have had cordless 28v sds, percussion drill & circular saw for nearly 6 years and they're alive, well & I still have two original batteries.
Really like the 12v range and have a few if them, the hackzall is amazing.

Have some good Metabo stuff, the rest of the kit I have is makita.

Best in my opinion are Milwaukee & Metabo, really tuff & reliable. Makita I like as they are really good for the money, Dewalt & bosch seem good but would go makita instead.

Hilti seem great when have used them but never owned one myself.

Love the Milwaukee and they really have paid for themselves, never need a mains tool saves so much time

dont get the 1.5ah batteries they die too quick in a lot of cases

tend to use bosses 28v milwauke but its on its last legs and a 36v bosh sds for things like drilling concrete

he has had this one for 5 years and its had nearly daily usage

Ive recently been converted , so after dumping dewalt years ago i am now in the process of dumping makita for the milwaulkee red FUEL . and on a plus side in this weather they sell a heated jacket,, and they are currently selling the batteries for £50 each (2 for £100) i will be glad to see the back of the useless makita batteries

Part of my job is demonstrating power tool accessories and I have a Fuel. It's the best drill I have ever used. The power it transmits is unbelievable. The Red Lithium batteries make the run time high as well. I also have a 28v SDS which is fantastic for heavy duty applications and chiselling but would be a bit on the heavy side for every day (5.5 x 160 SDS drilling) and an 18v impact driver. There is a new 18v Fuel impact driver coming out soon.
Before anyone asks, I don't work for Milwaukee, and we don't sell power tools. However, I need a good power tool for everyday demonstrating otherwise it would make our stuff look pants!:smiley2:

In my limited experience, Hilti are the bulletproof tools, but far too expensive and pointless for someone like me who doesn't do too much really heavy duty work.

I've got tools from most of the big brands and can't complain about any of them.

I've even got a Bosch green combi which has lasted for yonks and is still in good nick...

my SDS drill is a Hilti, and I can't fault it.
brought up in another thread today weirdly.
got tools from most other makes, and Bosch is my favourite really. like the look, feel, durability, price ain't bad of you're sensible where you buy.

Most of my tools are Bosch. 36v vfli model I can't do without. My Bosch jigsaw has never broken down & is the best I've had. 18v makita combo kit is great too and as for my hilti wall chaser is a great bit of kit although I probably take it out of the van more for others to borrow than for my use. Love my 10.8v Bosch inspection camera as these ceiling tackers end up moving the cables around for the downlights well away from the original position regardless of the cables being clipped on to the joists.

my start up kit was all makita..thats 13 years ago and everything still works apart from the 12v drill driver...

i then upgraded to dewalt especially cordless..im running 18v and have a multitude of tools that all use the one battery

i had the dewalt 24v 3way sds but that lacked punch, thought of changing back to a bosch but thought id wait until it died...it didnt die but got nicked so the bosch was purchased...couldnt be with out it, its awesome

the new makita cordless stuff is pants, batteries die under less stressful load, and forever on charge

I have got a mikita tool kit consiting of cordless drill, impact driver, sds drill, torch, circ saw, and radio nothing has ever let me down, batteries last well and only take 22mins to charge meaning i never run out of power. i have used dewalt and dont think its even close to makita.

talking about dewalt.

i know a guy on firm that is on his third drill.

the first 2 burnt out in a week lol

the 3rd is going strong after a couple months.

seems there quality control has gone a bit downhill as i wouldnt think its possible to get 2 in a row that break down with same fault

I have milwaukee 18v sds coming soon , i will drill so many 5.5mm holes for all you uncertain tool guys to have dip and feel something

i know a guy that has the 18v combi

he is an idiot. he bought the 1.5ah version and wonders why his batteries dont last as long lol

i got 3ah makita battery and another guy has 4ah dewalt

I am working for one of the companies listed (unfortunatly I cannot tell you which one as this is confidential). I do product comparisons on a daily basis, and I can tell you with certainty that DeWalt tools are over priced and of a worse quality than the majority of the other tools in the same product category.

Hello!

Jiff the new boy here, I just thought I would let you see a picture of my latest addition to my tool kit. Hoping to get long service from this baby!!

IMG_1128.jpg

Going to be in a shed load of trouble when the wife finds out.......

I used to do power tool repairs years ago. Had all the brands in for repair. Depending on the size of the wallet that is! Makita had the edge over all the others. Panasonic had the best gear-box but very pricey. Metabo were pretty pig-ugly but would take a right beating. As usual Bosch were up to the job. The 2kg SDS was a great buy and easy to sort if it went AWOL. I remember when Dewalt brought out the range of cordless drills, they were ok but had loads in for warranty repairs on the brush carriers. BTW they were just re-badged and colour changed B&D's!!!

Got Makita, Bosch & Metabo now plus a cheap and cheerful JCB (???!!) SDS hammer I picked up to knock the **** out of the kitchen!!

that's clever. I like that!

I've had my dewalt 7years, it's going strong. Batteries don't hold charge as good as I would like, but it's still really decent!!
i also have a 36v Bosch 3 function which I love.

In my opinion , Dewalt are ok , i had all the dewalt gear when it first came on the market , and then changed everything to Makita, when that went lithium. and both are of equal standard, a very negative point is that the Makita batteries are very poor. i have Hilti which is superb but expensive, and i also have a Bosch 24v and 36 v which are good work horses. I have in the last year started to replace bits with milwaukee, and in my opinion the 18v comb FUEL is the best combi ive ever tried by quiet some margin.

whats wrong with makita batteries?

the new ones with the star on them are good and hold there charge (fingers crossed)

I have 13 makita batteries in my garage and all dead and i am currently trying to get makita to change a few as a good will gesture.
I still have loads of makita stuff so im not totally against it , but it is common knowledge that they had a problem, and as you pointed our the new ones have a star on them , this in its self tells you they have changed because of the problem.
But personally im changing to milwaukee as i think the FUEL range is a far better system. but everyone will have an opinion, im just basing it on dewalt/bosch/matikita and milwaukee as these are the tools i use.

eddie i agree that there is a problem with the older batteries but im going to wait and see how these new star batteries last.

guys replica makita batteries wont work on star drills (3rd gen and inc all brushless).

Hello All, sorry to hijack the post. Can anyone recommend a battery jigsaw. I was looking at festool or the Milwaukee, I was wondering what people were using.

I have a the festool battery jigsaw, body style not d handle.
its performance is the same as the 240v
It only came with one 18v battery
but I got it cheap due to an online disaster on the toolshops part )
had it out this weekend on my bairns summer house project
nice bit of tackle

I have never been a DeWalt fan, personally. But either Makita or Milwaukee have my vote in the 18v li-ion range. Both with 3 year warranties when we register them, (if we remember to). There`s a few more perks to the Makita i have found over the Milwaukee which is mainly the cost. I think on average the naked tools are approximately £50 cheaper than the Milwaukee's. Aone Tools in west yorkshire is the best price i have found more Makita, on both kits and naked tools.

Makkita body only are cheaper as that is the way they get u involved in there brand, but then the catch is you have to buy makita batteries at a round £60-70 , where as i can always get two lithium RED milwaukee for £100, and they are a better battery than the makita as my garage is a graveyard for makita batteries,

I buy Makita (and get on very nicely with it bu crave Hilti (the stuff I've borrowed or had on rental is ruddy brilliant but I can't afford it)
