Just looked at a some sockets in a tower block looks like the wiring is in black enamel conduit . The sockets are not bushed in but have bent over 'teeth' (one large two smaller,on opposite sides) to join to the black metal back box to the conduit . Has anybody seen this and what is the best way to change the back box ... any help appreciated
thanks

Not seen this but it sounds like a prefabricated conduit system........if there is no separate cpc (mechanical earth) I would be very reluctant to change the box, might be real hassle....Can you chop in another alongside??

not really , it all seems like a bit of a chore- hard concrete walls that have been skimmed also . cpc is through conduit and socket earthed to back of box , havent had much experience with this sort of building , perhaps something to avoid .....

All very well to say view it as a challenge, but if there is no thread on the end of the pipe which is the cpc it may be impossible to satisfactoraily fit a standard back box to the conduit, guess it depends on how essential it is and what your customer is prepared to pay,
