calibration con. who needs it.

just for fun, measured a 12K resistor with my AVO multimeter, 15 years old, cost £60, never been calibrated, reading was 11.97K. same resistor measured on calibrated fluke cont./IR meter , cost £345+VAT, reading 11.98K. any comments?

Years ago they would check and adjust if required the calibration now they just check for calibration and yep like you my 25 year old Fluke 71 has not been touched along with my amp probes. I just get my 1553 and KT71 testers checked because I have to

As I was told no( names no pack drill) why if you are checking it regularly, I mean would you fill a 5 litre bucket to see how much it holds ?

Plus modern electronic plus years ago Scottish Power Disputed my report of 262vac supply saying you cannot trust a meter thats not calibrated but by pure luck it was and I offered to send a copy so they said speak to our legal department

Depends what the accuracy of the meter is I suppose. As long as it meets the spec of the meter its passed cal
