Steel wire wool,is an old scouting trick,to get the fire started,so,not very fire-proof.
On it's own,it would not stop any mice,not from my town,anyway.
Also,if i was a mouse,what with cellars,sub-floors,attics,lath and horsehair plaster...i would choose to make my last stand,in a Victorian property
It's "Home Alone",for mice.
