Good evening, I was wondering if anybody out there has any experience working as a compex electrician please?

I’m 35 and have been an electrician for about 5 years now after deciding to retrain later on in life. I mainly have just domestic electrical experience but am seeking a new path within electrics.

Having seen jobs for compex electricians advertised online I would like to know if just domestic electrical experience would be enough to go down the compex route?
Any experience anyone has and what route they took would be brilliant if possible please.

Cheers.

There are a few different parts and fields. Which one are you looking at?

Haven’t looked that far into it yet, sorry to sound naive! First steps I’ve taken are the forum!

Is there a particular part/field that most people tend to go into?
No not really some parts are geared towards different industries and only require certain parts, you could do all and cover all parts but it would be hard work I’m sure.

Yes I’ve done a little.

Domestic to COMPEX/industrial is not impossible but will be tough for you. I would work in the industry before spending the 1K or more personally as when or IF you get through the weeks course and blag yourself into a job, keeping it will be hard IMO without some experience behind you.

Petro Chem is a very different environment and not that pleasant at times.

Rather than call it a Compex Electrician, it's better described as an Industrial or Commercial Electrician with Compex.

Compex applies to areas with potentially hazardous and explosive atmospheres, something that would never be found in a Domestic situation.

As others have said being at an expienced level of Industrial / Commercial would apply first, before adding Compex.
