Hi guys,

I've not long been moved into my new house and this morning whilst running the shower I noticed an awful smell coming from the shower box. After opening up the shower, this is what I found (please see picture). Anybody know why this has happened and how I can prevent it from happening again? This is the result of a poor termination (loose connection) this in turn has led to overheating of the poor connection hence the results.... the extent of the damage to the supply cable and the internal wiring needs checking to see if this is a simple fix or requires replacement of some of the cable.

This will need to assessed by someone who is expeienced and competent.

I recommend an Electrician takes a look and furthermore they can assess this is solely down to a loose connection or whether other factors have played a part like correct cable size etc.

9.6kW just about on limit for 6mm as long as it's not smothered in itchy crap.

Unlikely that the supply cable will have enough slack in it to reterminate anyway, looking at that picture. DIY install for sure. Would definitely get an electrician in to assess the situation with this one.

i'd say that's a 6mm cable, judging by the cpc - a 10mm t&e cpc would be stranded.

the shower looks like it's 9.5kw which is pushing it for a 6mill cable (depending on circuit length & installation method).

Is it actually possible that that cable is 4mm? I has one of these last year, 9.5kw shower on 4mm. And the cable was run in insulation.
