Extractor Fan - No Rcd

I just realised that I have a ip45 rated extractor fan in my ensuite, located on the ceiling above the shower, that has no rcd protection. It is controlled via a 3 way switch, that also controls downlights and a light above a cabinet. Should I be worried? Is it safe? How urgently should I get a rcd fitted by an electrician? Thanks.

the chance of you putting you pinkies in it whilst in the shower is rare , unless of course you have the mental capacity of a plumber.

Maybe you should get as local spark to look over your house. A new cu may be a very sensible thing to plan for and get done

Is that the reason why an rcd exists?
Please don't laugh, but I thought that it was possibly because the condensation from the shower could rise and get inside the wiring of the fan, and cause a shock while standing on the shower. Is that just stupid? I'm a complete diy'er.

Have you installed it or has someone done it for you???

I moved into the house fairly recently, fan was in place. I've looked up the fan online and it's ip45 rated, as long as a rcd is fitted. I've an old fuse box, no rcd as far as I can see. And no rcd near bathroom.

if the fan were being fitted today, the reg's and the manufacturers instructions specify RCD protection, but they're not retrospective. a fan rated IP44 or higher is specced as suitable for fitting above a shower/bath in zone 1. my advice would be that it's safe to use ( as in thousands of homes with earlier installations) but for peace of mind, i'd consider upgrading the old fuse board to a modern board fitted with RCD protection, either a dual RCD board or one with RCBOs. if you post your location, one of us may be close enough to give you a quote.
