Discuss Got me a cheap Megger MFT 1721 off ebay in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

Good job, Now get to know it inside and out - what everything does and why it does it and your testing and fault finding will be unstoppable. I'm in the same position but with a slightly older 1552. It's one of the pieces of your kit that will earn your keep.

Yep,i second the above. I have had one of these for a few years,it is one of my fleet!:)

Get the small "brief instruction" pamphlet,it has all the available settings, parameters and test arrangements.

It is important you know ALL your instruments capabilities, even if an immediate use for some of them, does not seem obvious. The variable buzzer limits and reverse polarity on resistance measurement, are handy parameters to have available.

Check the software version you have, this comes up first,on scrolling through the menu, and don't forget Megger has a good reputation,in my experience, for any technical advice.

I reckon the 1700 series, early software glitches aside,is an excellent example,of what is in truth,a compromise of many different test facilities,in one box...
Easy to use, intuitive, and if i had a gripe,it's a very petty one, which is even after knowing the device inside out and back to front, the abbreviated parameter titles are not always lightningly obvious as some are a mixture of capital and lower-case 3 letters...like i said, minor :)
