I have an engineering degree in electronics ... and since being a homeowner, I am getting interested in all things electrical in my home ... looking to improve where I can.

The science is the same, it's the regulations and requirements for safety which are different.

I think the safety aspect applies all the time ... esp in the light of the exploding Samsung phones ... That was only 3.7 V !

agreed. and many a vehicle fire has resulted from a measly 12Volts.
