Hello there.

I recently had a pool with a screen enclosure installed at my home. I would.like to add a spot light to the outside of the enclosure overlooking my back yard. There is an outside spotlight that is still in use near the outside corner of my home that was used prior but is now in the pool area. I would like to use this as my source of electric for the spot light as it is already there. So...is it possible and more importantly safe to run electric through the aluminum channel of the enclosure? If so what is the recommended method? There are about three breaks im the run where I will need to hole saw through some of the aluminum channels to run wire or conduit through. I'm thinking romex would do the job but an quite unsure of the risk being inside the aluminum channel?. Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Keep in mind that "Romex" should not be installed in areas where it is subject to physical damage. Uploading a picture would be helpful.
Some electricians have concerns about running Romex in conduit as well.
What kind of wire is being run to the spotlight? (Aluminum? Copper?)
There are a lot of great electricians on this form who can give you advice.

Currently it is copper wire. I will work on getting a picture up today for reference. I did figure damage to the wire would be an issue. Thought about inserting rubber grommets in the drilled hole areas to avoid chaffing and any chatter as the enclosure could have slight movement with storms. For the most part the channels are solid and clear all the way through for the majority of the run.

Hardhead it is legal to run wiring up through the channel, this is very common on parking lot lights for car dealerships which have a cover on the bottom so you can make the wire up. You must bond the pole and since the circuit you are talking about. My suggestion is to drill a 1/2 inch hole in the channel for your wiring. What you need is install a box near the bottom, mark the holes on the box and tap the channel. To do that once you have the holes marked drill 7/32 holes and tap them a quarter inch. Once that is done you will be able to make up your wires, as far as the top of the channel goes where the light or lights are installed I can’t advise on that because we have no pictures. Parking lot lights are prewired on top and the wire is long enough to be made up. Again bond the light pole
