Just been on ebay and bought a 1.2M tall wooden giraffe. Why I don't know lol.

Any others made silly purchases for no apparent reason.

A friend of mine buys stuff for her Harleys.
Invariably what she buys is for a different model, a differnt year, or is just too tacky to mention.
But then she's a girl, so has an excuse.

If it's made in an African country check it for woodworm before you put it anywhere near your house or garden shed. A few years ago I bought a 2 meter hippo (not from EBay) and it turned out to have a woodworm infestation. I ended up having to burn it :(

Just checked mate and it's from Germany. Thanks for the advice though I will check it when it arrives.

Never heard of that but it sounds like it might work. Unfortunately my beloved hippo was at least twice the size of my freezer.

Hahaha...potentially 100s, usually late at night with a skin full.
Fortunately wake up the next day and find I've been outbid.

This was buy it now so I'm stuck with a 3 foot high giraffe. Never know the mrs might like it :)

Not that this little snip-it of info will be of use to anyone on this forum but !

If you take the dash of a 40 series ford tractor and leave it in the freezer over night it apparently resets the clock , i used to work for local agricultural contractor in the early 90's and he reportedly made tens of thousands extra on resale values using this method .:35:

I've sold a few handbags on Ebay that I bought at charity shops or boot sales. One I bought for £4.99 and sold it for £70 and another I bought from a boot sale for a fiver and sold it for £60. My best sale ever was a Mulberry wallet that I picked up at an animal charity shop for 25p and sold it for £25!!!!!

On the flipside, I have bought some real munters!!! :prrr:

I remember a few years ago, staying up until 3am waiting for an auction to end on a book I'd spotted for Geordie. It felt like winning the lottery. :cool4:

got quite drunk the once and bought a 1969 VW Karmann Ghia convertable from e-bay.

woke up in the morning and I was still the winning bidder, remember watching the auction clock tick away hoping someone would outbid me.

I still have it in my garage, although I haven't driven it for a couple of years now

Thank God I'm not the only muppet on this forum. :)

Wow, you spent £40.00 on a wooden giraffe. Dead man walking, your other half is going to do some serious damage. I can only advise you point blank lying about the price when she asks you.

Problem is Marvo I'm back over to work on Monday so this thing will arrive and probably have a dirty big invoice attached to it lol.

in a moment of madness when I was younger, I was watching an auction on a quad bike.
At the very last second, I bid a ridiculous figure to ensure I got it.
luckily it only ended up being about £900, and I obviously won it.
spent just about every minute I could on it for about 6 months, then the novelty wore off and I sold it.
got a good return on it though

Well it's arrived lol.

Im an ebay virgin.

My friend bought a car from a fella in birmingham....brought it back to sunny old yorkshire, had 4police cars and a van follow him up the road, box him in - dragged him out, scuffed his elbows and chucked him in the back of the van and whisked him down to the cop station. Got to cop station and cops realised when checking I.D that they'd made a mistake...

Turns out, that the lad he had bought it from was on sex offenders register and he wasn't allowed out of a certain area - and the paperwork hadn't been properly passed over to DVLA or the police database thing updated and the likes because he had only had the car for about an hour...coincidently our other mate who was his passenger for the trip, happened to be originally from birmingham (the reason he went with him) - so when the cops questioned him at the scene and saw his driving license they just presumed.

Got a hand-written letter from the head of North Yorkshire Police saying how sorry they were about the incident - probably could of took them to court, but he just laughed it off and didn't do anything about it - which is probably the best thing. Can't write stories like that, unbelievably unlucky lol

...And thats the reason i stay away from Ebay and the likes. Amazon's about as far as i tread online.

The other half actually likes it so that to me is a result :)

Lucky then?! :)

Over the years I've bought quite a few Pinball machines off Germany ebay.
A few emails in dodgy computer translated German to arrange collection, then get over there in the van, with a mate, to pick them up.
Every one was a great deal and had fun weekend trips as well!

last year i bought a giant box full of vintage radio station jingle playing cart machines from blackburn hospital radio via ebay...sold to a dutch bloke for a tidy profit......may seem odd but i collect that sort of stuff...unfortunately this stuff was broken

I bought a stuffed magpie on ebay a couple of months ago whilst having a few drinks before taking the missus to dinner.
It's put away because if we have it out the cats maul it :(

Yea mate the giraffe is fine, no woodworm lol. I'm not sure if the other half still has it in the living room though. I'll have to check when I get home on Friday.
