Hi guys,
I installed four LED GU10 lamps in a customers kitchen, replacing a pendant. There's just a one way light switch, no dimmer. Approx one month later, she called as the lamps had blown, one at a time. I popped over, took the lamps out and returned them to the vendor. In the meantime, I put two replacement LED GU10 lamps in. The replacements are the same as in my kitchen, from the same batch, but from a different supplier. And within two weeks, they'd blown too. Has anyone any ideas why this might be. Are LEDs more sensitive to electrical spikes perhaps? I've never had issues like this before.

Thanks in advance.

LED lamps do not like getting too hot so have you got a lot of insulation above the fittings in the customers ceiling?

Other than that you could have a loose connection somewhere that is flickering the power or as BS2 says cheap lamps the components burn out quickly even if the LED chips still work.

Thanks for the replies guys, they're not cheap lamps, £16 each, and have been in my parents kitchen for over a year, and mine for at least six months. Will check the insulation situation, and connections. Although, I fitted them in Aurora fire rated lamp holders, so there's space within the holders. Also, the LEDs give off barely any heat. It's one of the reasons they use far less energy than halogens?

50 000 man hours they say on these leds makes you laugh ive fitted hundreads most are ok but im the same had a few problems with a couple of customers you look a bit of a fool trying to explain why theve blown

The lowest level SPD you could get generally is for surges over 400V (Class III) so not likely to be viable here as if the problem is due to surges then they are only likely to be a matter of 10's of volts at max.

The only other thing I thought of is if the is corrosion on the connections, sort of thing you might get with new plaster or damp ceilings, bit of a long shot.

Not too sure I should post in here yet, however I am trying to work through a know voltage drop problem in my flat very slowly not being an electrician, .................... I just hope the thread is allowed. It is pending approval for publishing in the forum.

Sorry about the delay, posts from new members need to be approved before they appear on the forum. I've edited this post to avoid duplication, please see your thread here.
