Set 42029 Pick up.

Big and heavy. Steering, suspension, moving pistons. Motor which runs either tipping bed or the front winch via gearbox.

Lego technic, The Next Generation.
Set 8859, starting to use more and more technic parts rather than bricks and plates from earlier models.
New steering arms and angled connectors using toothed parts.

one of my original sets as a kid. 40 years old, as you can see by the dust.

No just day 36, but it feels longer

Previous full set of collectible mini figures, (aka, CMF) Series 21, which includes some classics such as beekeeper, violin boy and lady minotaur….

42121 excavator in mini scale. Arm joints move via gears on side and rear. No space in this to add any electric motor.

Pullback models from 2019.
42090 and 42091, nothing too special… no detachable parts, no stunt ramps and no silly names.

42111, Dodge Charger from the Fast And Furious franchise.
Front and rear suspension, steering, 8 piston engine.
Also has a retractable support underneath so you can position it doing a wheelie….

ps, I have a second one of these still in its box for sale.

Set 8848, another from my childhood. (Hence the dust)
Tipping rear and lifting bucket on front via levers. New size wheels on this.

Set 42095. Tracked loader
A form of forestry machine with the large log claws at the front and a two speed winch at the back.
Drivers cabin spins 360 degree.

42103 and 42104, pullbacks from 2020.
Race truck and dragster, come with finish line and start lights.
Dragster has a wheelie bar at the back

Day 43.
Set 42106, stunt show.
A bonus pullback set from 2020, as the motorbike has a pullback function.
The truck has steering, and opening doors… the trailer converts into a ramp, and all this actually works!
You can get the motorbike to launch off the ramp, through the “flaming” hoop and land back on its wheels

Working top and rear rotors, retractable landing wheels.

Set 42097, compact crawler crane.

A lot of technical parts in this…. Gear wheels, worm drives, gear racks… Designed for small fingers, this one.

I think the big black car chassis with suspension was earlier by about a year.

Ah yes could be right.
I'm sure that's the one where the instructions (or maybe the picture on the box) show suspension units made out of separate technic parts and springs. But the set actually came with the all in one suspension units. I reckon they were developed after the printing was done!!

Yes, that’s right. Was on the box print but not instructions. Set did indeed use the grey/black suspension part which is still being used in modern sets, although now is yellow/black with stiffer springs. (See Doms Charger and the red pick up earlier in thread)

I've just re-bought set 8851 pneumatic digger. It's one I had years ago but bits have gone missing and the pneumatic lock went faulty.

Got the set in good condition complete with box and plastic inners for £43 which I though was a fair price.

Might build it this weekend.

Set 8846, tow truck. Bit of a rarity I understand.
Dual winch towing rack on rear. Front winch operates by spare wheel.
One of the first to include the black friction pins, the old type that didn’t come apart very easily.

Set 8841, dune buggy
Fits on the above tow truck perfectly.

Set 8030, Universal set.

There were a few of these over the early years. Small sets with instructions for up to 5 models, showing an introduction to how the technical elements worked.

This is one of my originals and I’m looking out for the blue and yellow set of the same time. 8050 and 8090

Set 8843, pneumatic forklift from 1984

tipping forks, rear wheel steering and fork lifts with pneumatic cylinder.
Steering wheel in cab repeats movement of one on roof.

Mine was from eBay, and the discolouration of the grey parts suggests displayed in direct sunlight.

I’ve got an attached garage, which now houses the laundry machines, spare freezer and beer fridge at one end and 8 foot long shelves at the other for my collection…. 6 of them. Plus a lit IKEA Billy bookcase with glass doors for the premier items.

No, not really. Due to the age the rubber hoses need replaced….. or maybe I’ve built it a little too tight…. Too much resistance.

I was in a shop that sells nothing but old Lego today. They had a Millenium Falcon built for £500. Also had a few other Star Wars items. There was a death star but no price on it. It's a small shop but I think you would like it. It's in Somerset so maybe a bit far from you. BTW, lock up your sheep, I'm back up your way the week after next!!

i was in somerset a few years ago with the caravan... wish id known about that shop! Thatll be the collector Falcon... 4 times the size of the one ive got.
Going to North Wales in October if anyone knows a good toy shop??

Day 55? I dunno…I’ve lost count!

Triple bonus day! Sets 8620, 8640 and 8660. Missing 8680. These were a sub theme of artic explorer technic, and included the bigger figures for the first time.
Snow buggy, helicopter and six wheeled vehicle with mini bulldozer.
8680 being a base of operations with a pneumatic lift and a mini copter.

Set 8842 go cart.

Doubled up wheels, asymmetric layout and one of the last to use the square pistons price.

Set 8849 tractor

“Interesting” suspension where the front wheels simply flip-flops on the steering axle.

PTO drive to rear, but the attachment doesn’t use it.

Day 58.
Set 8852. This was 1987, and this was Lego’s attempt to cash in on the new Transformers toys. They didn’t try again.

steering in both modes, handle on rear lifts the body and draws in the front section.
Arms need to be positioned first, or they catch and pull the body apart.

Set 8853

rear wheel steering, lifting and tipping bucket.
Ok set, but I’m sure the size of bucket, this could have been made in parts instead of one piece.

Set 8854. A rare one this I believe.
Contains a metal hook piece to weigh down the string, and a threaded axle to hold the turntable together. First used in 8851 the pneumatic excavator.
Thread is standard M4

Set 8815, a mini version of the red go kart shown earlier.
big one used the square piston, this one has the newer round piston. A part still used in modern sets.

So set 8825, front end loader.

Day 63

The 90’s were a bit of a dark age, not just for technic, but for all Lego. I don’t have much from that era, partially because the models were, let’s be honest… a bit crap.

The license Lego got for Star Wars at around that time turned them around, and it started getting popular again.

Set 8446 from 1999
Making use of the studless beams that had been recently introduced and a lot of other new parts. Complex mechanics, but still looks too futuristic to be a “real” vehicle.

Day 64

Set 8415.
6 years later, and they’re getting back to “reality”

Unique tyres, (at least I don’t have any more like this) and the only set to have a certain piece in blue instead of grey. No studded beams at all now, but they do come back in the future for specific tasks.

The chassis is now studless, and as they come in lengths based in odd numbered holes rather than even numbered studs on bricks, the width of all models become odd numbered, and as such the main axle lengths are odd rather than even.

Set 8419. Excavator

strange little set. Comes with rubber tracks rather than linked pieces. The mechanical linkages are so stiff, it needs a little help to move rather than turning the usual gears.

Set 8828, crane.

A recent eBay purchase. Total gamble as seller didn’t know if complete.

Black bricks at rear have metal blocks in them to act as counterweight… just like real thing.
