Discuss Loop in at The Switch - 3 Gang 2 Way in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hey,

I've just past my trade test and was placed on a new build to complete the 2nd fix
as the guy who roughed it has left.

Anyway, he's wired the lights using the loop method at the switches, I've never did this
previously as I would always do the joint at the ceiling rose, this has thrown me
when it came to connecting a 3 gang 2way switch at the top of the landing.

There are 2 feeds, 2 switch wires, a 3 core (2way) and a fan cable.

What's the correct/best way to connect this?

Any help appreciated

Thanks

bell them out. draw it out on paper, then wire up. unfortunately there ain't a app for this.:toilet:

Theres going to be alot of conductors there but you just have to (firstly stay calm :)) slowly work out which are the P/L, S/L and N. Just keep doing continuity tests until you have found them all.

Like Tel says, I really find it useful to draw it out and once you've drawn it out you'll think 'thats fairly straight forward', but dont throw the diagram away just yet, wait till its all wired up!!

You need to picture in your mind the working of the circuit , not just do things in a way that because its not as you would normally do things that makes it impossible to understand , visualise what your working with ..

And a lot of neutrals in that back box, hope it's deep enough.

You sound like some sort of guru Ray! I can just imagine you seated in front of the almighty swith, picturing and visualising it's inner workings.

You know, I hate it when people loop at the damn switch...

This job I'm doing at the moment, there's probably 8 or so light switches I'm moving to opposite walls, all looped at the switches, what a pain in the bum, to be honest it would have easier to rewire the light circuit.

it makes it a lot easier when they sre 3 plated definately

OP don't listen to this bunch of clown shoes! They're all wrong!

Connect all the browns together and all the blues together in two connector blocks. Any cores left go in the switch. Bada bing bada boom. Kapiche?

This isn't helping the OP much, mixing politics with electrics...although...Tory=blue=neutral,Labour=old red=line,Green party=cpc, and,i suppose the Liberals are the strappers, working from any end...UKIP?...any colour as long as it's red, white and blue...i could do this all night,i'm off to bed
