Got some emergency lighting to fit this week. Spec is vague.

Normally the key switch would be switching only the feed to the EM battery pack - not the whole circuit as I’ve seen some do. However the lights are all controlled by PIR. Does this have any impact? Can imagine they will be hard to test properly if the main room lighting keeps pinging on.

Cheers

Thinking I’m going to switch both the line supplies to the maintained EM light only via a DP key switch. If the other lights in the room keep coming on that shouldn’t be a problem?

Forgot to add these rooms have no windows! So the lights will come on!

It’s obviously too early for this! If I switch both lines to the maintained fitting it will of course turn all the lights off in the room when the key switch is opened

Perm live should be separate from the switched output of the sensor, no different as if it were a general light switch. Test facility in perm live only.

Got it sussed eventually when I woke up this morning.

I’m going to switch both lines for the emergency fitting only via a double pole key switch. If I only switch the line to the battery pack you won’t even be able to tell if the emergency light illuminates as the fitting will still be turning on from the PIR

Test facility will put I to test mode you shouldn't need to isolate both poles.

Lucky I ran the extra cables. Breaking the supply to the battery turned on the emergency part of the fitting, but it didn’t go into a test mode and turn off the light.

Had to break both line conductors to fitting in a dp key switch.

Ansell fittings.
