Minor New Works. "Addition and Alterations to an installation that does not extend to the provision of a new circuit" In today's view of quoting the BYB this come from "Definitions" couldn't be clearer really could it? To stop any further arguments, can I suggest that every one reads page 418 BYB Appendix 6 page 413 BYB in today's black an white world, there it is in Black and White, not going to argue anymore, I'm out.

Electrical installation certificates will indicate the responsibility for design,construction,inspection and testing whether in relation to new work or further work on an existing installation.

The Minor electrical works note in bold on page 417 is simply indicating that it cannot be used for a provision of a new circuit.

Earlier this week I installed a shed supply, took a 4mm SWA from the existing ground floor RFC via an isolator and fitted 2 x double sockets and a 5' striplight via a SFCU in the shed. So this is an addition to an existing circuit technically, MWC or EIC ?

Whatever you feel is appropriate dave as long as it's certified

An EIC is for new circuits, don't see how you can use that certificate for altering existing, personally I would issue a MNWC for each circuit altered.

For the model forms in bs7671:
Minor works is for extension or alteration of an existing single circuit.
EIC is for new work or alterations/extensions of multiple existing circuits.

Other types of forms have been produced, such as by NAPIT where provision is made for up to three circuits to be recorded on a minor works style form.
