Alright guys, looking to get some new testers, I only really work domestic, what do you use and why do you like it?

Only really used a fluke multi, subjective, always subjective ?

I have used megger for years, the model 1726... for many years.





Ok, it's also known as a series 3 mk III




And yes only kidding, I have upgraded to a mft1730, although my original one actually did everything that was needed for years!

Only used other kit for specialist testing!

Yeah the bm series were the first battery type to really be used, we had the bm8 and we used it to test 13.8/11kv gear as it is 1kv, the bm7 is either 250 or 500v

We played with it for a long time, prior to this we used 5kv wind up meggers, and didn’t trust the very week output of the bm's

Basically you can hold the 1kv output from the bm8 and press the button, gives a nice measurement of your own resistance!

It only got up to voltage if there was no load!!!

So press the button, then grab the leads and you're sorry! Holding the leads first - no problem!

Actually just looked up the bm7 - it has a much higher short circuit current than the bm8 - around 4mA - the bm7 was less than 0.8mA

So not a good plan to try it!
