Neutrals in light switch

**But here we go again 6 pages on how to terminate a neutral at a back box when doing 3 plate. Maybe with the font of all electrical knowledge; AKA inspector Oracle, and him bumping his gums, over this. Could of put those said gums to good use and crimped the ****ers, and insulated it with the **** that came with it too.~~

I am remaining neutral on this....

bring in your cables through the top of your galv' back box, pop out a couple of the knock-outs on the back of the box, thread your neutrals out of the top one and back in through the bottom one - job done. don't forget to use grommits though.

I've have seen another make with 6amp L-N DP switching. Can't remember what make, but they were standard plastic switches.

if you do, take it up with the tutor on my 5 week course. but make sure you go in prepared - he's got a CSE in woodwork.

Well that just about sums up what to expect from a Electrical Trainee, as far as i can see!!

Mmmm I thought according to the new regs it was the cables that were supposed to be secured in the boxes not the connections so that there was no chance of strain coming on to the connections so why was he asking you to secure the neutral and not the cables them selves ? And will we be faced with new boxes with cable clamps in them to take them up to standard ? If all connections ha to be secured Waggos would have been a complete waste of money and I have just bought a **** load of them lol

I got called on this a few years ago by NIC inspector. He said wago's or crimps are fine but any screwed connection has to be securely fixed and not floating, same reg as requires joint boxes to be securely fixed according to him.

which is a load of bullpoo. if the cable is secured by clamp or by the fact that it's buried in plaster, then that satisfies the security of cables issue.

They do seem to have a daft little fad each year to pick on.
The year before I got a lecture on how the brown of the three core in a 2way should be used as whichever strapper has the permanent live on it, not in the common.
I tried to explain that the 2way switch he was looking at was wired from a jb with the common of one switch being live and the other common being switch live. He just ignored me and carried on with the lecture!
