Just to be clear… I am going to do the correct thing here and pay for the correct parts…. I just wanted to start the discussion.


My particular situation on a job, all I’m doing is adding to an rfc. Moving a couple of sockets off the skirting board, adding a fcu up to a switch, then wall lights.
The present board is a Memera 2000. Mainswitch and circuit breakers. No rcd on any circuit. Have advised and priced for a replacement full RCBO board as a future job….

But in the meantime, I’ve got to add rcd protection to the circuit I’m working on.
Why are Eaton (MEM) rcbo’s so much more expensive than anyone else?

Other manufactures will physically fit the space and busbar shape… whether Hager, proteus, whatever… I haven’t tried any because I am fitting the Eaton one…. But if it can be done without cutting the front cover to make it fit, or it creating a IP issue…. surely fitting any make of rcbo is better than none at all?

As an aside to this is saw in one of the free mags on ten wholesalers counter that someone is making pattern parts specifically to fit MEM2/Memera2000 boards.
They were claiming full compatibility.

At that sort of price a garage CU style of DIN box for an RCD added to a single RFC's MCB would be my solution, not pretty but if a stop-gap prior to new CU then quite OK.

Can you not still get the RCD pods that fit onto those mcb's?
They were available but about £50 ish, better than the kempston prices for a new rcbo!

The problem I found is that the fingers of the busbar on some of those memera boards are too wide for other MCBs, so you have to grind it down to fit. If you do that, then IIRC, Wylex NHX MCBs are the closest fit that I found, so I would expect the equivalent wylex RCBO would go in okay. All of the other brand MCBs I've seen shoe-horned into memera 2000 boards have not been a good fit, with the cover cut out to make way.

I avoid doing this sort of thing these days, except occasionally for emergency call outs, where there's no other way of restoring power at the time.

I’ve told the customer the price of a new Eaton RCBO, and the benefits of changing the entire board.
Wholesalers around me don’t even have one in stock.

Space is limited to cram in another make of rcd in a small enclosure, just for this one circuit.
Even the board that is there is on its side.



Weird thing is, If another customer accepts my price, I’ll be taking out an MEM split board in a week or two. With a mainswitch rcd that I feasibly could put into this board.

But that’s another issue. One rcd for 9 circuits.
