Hi,
Hoping for some guidance please. I am undertaking a 3/4 garage conversion as a DIY project. It’s not to building regs and is intended as a ‘remove it if ever sell’ situation.
The garage has existing power outlet - it’s a double socket on a ring main (not a spur). The issue I have is the socket is the ‘wrong’ side. I know I should not mess with electrics and cause any undue risk and wish to comply with Part P. So
I am looking for a temporary solution without buried wires and everything I do all coming from plugs in the existing double socket - i.e. no new wiring.
I plan on running a 10m extension lead through the new stud wall and into the ‘usable room’ of the garage. I can plug a small load through this so I think power wise, I am ok.
What I am struggling with is lighting. I really want a ceiling light with ‘switch’ like a usual room. I believe I can get a ceiling light and wire this to a plug with a 3amp fuse (please tell me if you think otherwise). What I ideally want is a switch in the middle of that on the wall. I.e. a plug in the double socket runs through new stud wall to a switch on the wall and then to a ceiling light.
Is this possible without contrevening Part P and adding and risk factor? What would be my best option here?
Many thanks in advance,
Sean
