Page 119 'Electricians guide to the building regs'

*Notches on top of joist in a zone 0.07 and 0.25 x joist span.

*Max depth of notch should be 0.125 x joist depth.

* Holes on centre line of joist in a zone between 0.25 and 0.4 x joist span.

* Maximum diameter of hole should be 0.25 x joist depth.

Easier to understand with a diagram, but I hope that helps.

Regards.

Part of the reason I ask is the plumber has staggered his holes diagonally. 4 holes in total and totally screwed my main clipping run.Its a new build

Building Regs Part A (Structure)
It's in diagram form in the Electricians Guide to the Building Regs.
The plumber should be working to BRs just the same as you. Report it to the site manager perhaps.

Regulations 522.6.5 – Impact (AG), Cables installed under floors or above a ceiling
Generally, a cable should either be:
i. installed ≥ 50 mm vertically from the top, or bottom as appropriate, of the joist or batten,
ii. incorporate an earthed metallic covering (e.g SWA, MICC etc.),
iii. be enclosed in earthed metallic conduit, trunking etc.),
iv. be provided with mechanical protection to prevent the penetration of the cable by nails, screws and the like

Glad I rewired my 1st house before the 15th edition at one point there was 40 cables running under the landing floor! From 1.0mm up to 16mm.
