Well, thanks for the replies, which have only confirmed what I thought, that this is a tricky and not easily solved problem. I went to spec savers today, and to be honest I think they are ready for giving up on me. The outcome, for me, is that varifocals, occupational and bifocals are a non starter for working in. Too difficult to work on thIngs like like fittings and too dangerous to walk down step/ladders. Larry greyson chains are out as I will only end up leaning on them and breaking them. I have traded the bifocals in and gone for 3 different pairs, reading, working/laptop and general/distance. I am going to either rest the working ones on the end of my beak or tuck them into the headband of my head torch, which I do wear quite often. Like Midwest I have long since stopped worrying about how I look, although I do try and take off the head torch before going into the co-op or local.
