Hi all, hope you can help me with this one. a few months ago I was going for it, my own work, my own business etc. However I got some temp work on brilliant money, so couldn't turn it down! Now I'm back to doing my own work and need some advice please! I've got a few small jobs to rattle out, but im not a member of a scheme and some of my work will be notifiable to building control! For example ive got an outside light to do for a friend, so will need to noticy labc, but without a scheme I can't self certify! Will they accept a cert thats not scheme registered, and will.my insurance cover it until I get signed up to one? Hope that makes sense, thanks for any useful or witty remarks!

You can pay the fee and notify directly with building control. The cost varies depending which area you're in I think.

Thanks for the replies , I cant like because im using the app, if I get on the laptop I will be liking your replies! Cheers Ben

Ben - do yourself a favour and join a scheme, sure it costs but it does put all these issues about notification to bed. I'm assuming you have a tester, and calibration, PL ins, tools etc so you're 90% of the way there.

My tuppence.

PS: why do you think an outside light is notifiable?

Ye ive got test kit tools pl insurance etc, so I suppose you're right! The outside light is notifiable because it will be a new circuit, the house has just been gutted and re done and when I re wired it my mate over looked an outside light, so a new circuit added to a house that was re wired 8 months ago is notifiable, because I could void his warranty given by my old boss when it was re wired, bit of a weird one I know haha!

so take the feed to the outside light off an existing circuit. if you go back to the board , as long as you come off an existing circuit, it's not notifiable and a MWC given to the customer is all you need.
