Hi there just a few questions I have to do an install of a small ware house that was built in 2021 January (finished) client that is going into the warehouse specialises in laboratory. Now he has a lot of 3 phase machinery like mixers and small hoists which are all 3 phase the building adjacent to it he wants about 40 x sockets in there to be used as an office and testing station
Iam going to run swa etc for 3 phase and sockets in the office area now due to amendment 2 I know the surge protection will have to go in but will arc fault apply to this thank-you in advance (just out my time gaining knowledge as I go thanks )

The regs state you must have afdd in the following :
• High risk residential buildings (HRRB)
• Houses in Multiple Occupation
• Purpose-built student accommodation
• Care homes

For all other there use is recommended
There may be additional requirements in a laboratory setting

As @newfutile said.

AFDD might be worth it if it is a place that has flammable materials, etc, so ask the client.

Other aspect you see in some laboratory situations is high leakage currents from lots of electronic stuff, again check with the client for end use. If they plan on having 13A sockets off a big UPS you would be better to hard-wire the UPS supply without RCD (or with 100mA delay, etc, if TT or other reasons for wanting that such as fire risk) and place a 30mA RCD on its output, otherwise no additional protection from the supply as if there is an earth fault the UPS keeps going!
