Hiya Guys,

I have a customer who has some GU10 spots in the canopy above his front door which have started to go a bit rusty so he would like them replacing.

The wholesaler has given him some IP20 GU10 to downlighter converters but I'm 99.9% these are unsuitable as although they are out of the rain they're not protected form moisture and damp etc. Would it be acceptable to replace them with some IPxx4 or equivalent bathroom GU10 converters (somethings telling me it wouldn't) or can someone suggest an alternative? The wiring will be in the void between the bottom and roof bit of the canopy.

Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

IPX4 will only protect against rain and splashing water so will not be protected against damp and condensation. If they are not getting rained on or washed then the IP rating should not be a problem, however if they are outside I would tend to aim for exterior grade materials such as stainless steel to prevent future rusting.
Not sure what the converters are so cannot comment on them.
