First time poster, but here we go.

My hot water tank cupboard in the bathroom was converted to a combi boiler.
This takes up much less room so there is space for other stuff, e.g. I had a shaver socket wired in to charge up my electric toothbrush. I think this is from the lighting circuit.

I quite like the idea of
putting a powered USB hub in there to charge my phone (within earshot if I am in the shower).
I can also power Bluetooth speakers so I can stream podcasts like I do in other rooms.

Question is...Can power a USB hub using a cable that goes from a figure 8 (IEC c7 I think) to the shaver socket connector?

I only want to draw a few watts at 5V and it is inside a cupboard, so not in a wet space.

Are there any other solutions?

Leave your phone downstairs, and have a nice relaxing shower.

how the hell can you relax in a shower? the spray gets into your whisky glass, puts your smoke out and soaks the pages of your technical/comic/ p*rn magazine. have a bath instead.

Depends on the shower. If you run around enough, you can miss most of the water. Anyways, you shouldn't be drinking in the Zones, think it says so in the OSG, unless your protected by an RCD (Reducing Consumption Device).

The input power of the mains adaptor for the hub might exceed the rating of the transformer within the shaver socket. You would have to compare the actual figures to be certain it will not be overloaded. If the location is out of the zones, you might be better off fitting a 13A socket.

or buy a proper razor.

I bought one of these. I don't plan to draw 40 Watts, but even if I did that would be <200 mA at the power supply input at 240V (assuming a fairly efficient ac-dc converter and a 5V regulator with not too much voltage drop).

USB Charger RAVPower 40W 4-Port Desktop USB Mains: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

I take the point though, a proper socket would definitely do it.
