I am setting up a market stall, I'm asked to bring 16 A motor hook up lead. Need for domestic use like lights, charger. Can i use one which has a male end that goes into generator and other end is mains with 3 sockets instead of female end? First time user and not aware of the details. If anyone could please help me out.

What length will the cable be? You will require a male end to plug into the generator yes. Presuming it is single phase, best to have a small fuse board with mcbs for lights and sockets fed by the 16a lead

Long term having a board made up to suit your exact needs is best as @Matthewd29 suggested.
(I use something like that a lot for temporary power, e.g. when working in a windowless warehouse and I need most of the power off.)

Short term - I'd have thought the easiest approach is something like this:
You then have 3 RCD protected sockets at your disposal, and lighting would simply plug in.
