I came across this gem of a leaflet from Wickes, it's pre 2005,
http://www.wickes.co.uk/content/ebiz/wickes/resources/images/gil/83.pdf
reading their latest advice on the web, they have changed their tune from:
"Contrary to popular belief carrying out a great deal of your own electrical work in the home is really quite easy."

To "Electricity is a service that's very much taken for granted in the home, and many householders prefer to leave it that way."

It's quite an in-depth leaflet, there's more on here, than I was told in my 1st year of college.. Bad Really, Wickes trying to flog their goods like this!

From the shower section. First mention of electician at about third of page down and the whole article implies that the householder can do the job.

"Cable will be 6mm2 or 10mm2 twin and earth depending on site factors. Only a qualified electrician will have the expertise to calculate when 10mm2 cable will be needed."

So always fit 6mm² because no expertise is needed for that.

Lets hope someone from Wickes reads this - or maybe not.

Haven't got time to read them now - is there any mention of notifiable work? or Part P?
