Hi all,

Hoping you can help with a problem.

Just taken over a new install all the 1st fix seems to be in order EXCEPT there is a strapper missing in a intermediate lighting system. Now its a typical new build with chip board floors all the wall have now been plastered so running the missing strapper is going to be a nightmare to say the least.

Is there a wireless option?

We currently only have the switched live cable at the 1st switch, and a three core linking the 2nd and 3rd switch.

Any ideas??

I fit some LightwaveRF last week, it is good gear but not sure if it will be accepted by a new build client tbh.

If it were me I would put the cable in and charge accordingly.

easy switch are a waste of space! i rang the tech help line on friday to be told i was being TOO techinical use terms like strappers and intermediate switches!!

There must be a way to get the 3core in, what if it were a re-wire. They can't have a go at you fella if you did not do the 1st fix.......Work to the drawing then there is no come back. What are you doing about notification out of interest if you did not 1st fix the job?

You just took it over from who ever first fixed it, just going to have to tell the site gaffer your strappers missing and get the patcher in, and bill the previous spark. Thats the norm on the sites ive been on. The gaffer wont want a red item with the 10 yr man.

the 1st light switch is below a flat roof extension approx 5m away from the original house structure. The 2nd light is on the ground floor approx 3m into the original house under the space/floor creted in what was the loft.
They have a building control company who apparenty "have the notification in hand" so they are aware and im cover incase of come backs.

The whole reason to look into the wirless option is NOT to disrupt the newly plastered walls ceilings and floors. £150 of switch is expensive but how far does £150 of making good go? It is the client/builders request

Toby to be fair you have to bite the bullet and patch. What would you have done if you had a kitchen full of downlighters and no drawing with marked positions. You cant put in wireless lights. The patcher on site and the painter give them 20 quid each and they will sort it out for you. By the time you have sourced rf switching i would have had it done and dusted by now.

its a 10m run accross flat roof extension, void space and exsisting house. to run cable will be half a day for an electrican plus making good and redecoration

i think everyone is neglecting what i am saying that the client/builder does not want to make good. He has asked to look into wireless options.
Its not a case of me "biting the bullet" it is not my decision

Well then tell the builder how much it's going to cost going down the wireless route, he's paying!! lol!!

Personally i wouldn't be a very happy pilgrim as the owner of this new build, to find out that if ever one of these units fail it's a £100 to replace it!! I think sooner or later, this missing wiring leg is going to have to be installed one way or the other, and i suspect it'll be sooner rather than later!! ...lol!!

Hi have used Home Easy, "buyhomeeasy.co.uk, fairly cheap £10 for each part, dont know if do intermediate, bought for 2 way lighting the receiver base unit fitted in back box , had to change to 35mm then the 2nd switch just stuck on wall give them a look reasonably cheap

Get three 1G switches (HE307) and pair all three of them with a remote controlled dimmable pendant or a ceiling switch (HE304,1000W capacity) or a dimmable ceiling switch (HE204, 300W). Yesterday I got a 1G switch and dimmable pendant as a set (HE208) for £8.52 delivered.

Early days but I'm looking at pairing one switch with two dimmable ceiling switches in the kitchen so they dim at the same time. Also I need hall and landing lights both controlled from downstairs x1 and upstairs x2 locations. So I'll get three x 2G switches and three pendants for the cost of 100m of 3 core from B&Q. The three LH switches get paired with the downstairs pendant, the three RH switches get paired with the two upstairs pendants. It might work!)

(It is all Chinese and might only last a couple of weeks, of course....)

outcome

I wouldnt personally trust the chinese products from experience. It all depends on the quality of the components used. But let us know the outcome, on how you got on. Cheers

i have some home easy gear in my house but, although websites still have them on their sites, they seem to be out of stock or unavailable. i cant seem to get them anywhere anymore!

I've noticed that some of my MK RCBOs say 'Made In China' - but only the B20 ones.

I'm getting all the Home Easy items off EBay. I've decided to do my 3-bed house all wirelessly with the Home Easy 'tuff costing about £220 delivered. This will be:

5 x 1G switches (battery powered radio transmitters)
5 x 2G switches (as above)
5 x dimmable pendants
7 x dimmable ceiling switches
1 x 4-way remote (not needed, just to play with)

'Pairing' a light to more than one switch emulates 2-way switching which I need one of, and 2-way plus one intermediate which I need two of. It's a tiny bit over the top like having the bathroom and kitchen dimmable by wall switch or optional remote. The first problem that comes to mind is the ceiling switches where you need access to press a tiny button to pair/un-pair them. Maybe the kitchen ones need to go in an under-stairs cupboard inside an adaptable box?
