Has anyone won work from approved planning applications that are posted on local council websites? If you did who did you write your letter of introduction to - was it the architect/agent or the applicant directly?

I'm thinking of using it as a good source of lead generation and including a link to online portfolio of similar jobs to see if that helps.

Cheers

Yes, it was a light industrial unit new build. I found out the address of the applicant and wrote a letter, a couple of weeks later the phone rang and I was invited to quote. I wasn't the cheapest but I got the gig because I talked through a lot of options with the bloke.
Gadgie still rings me from time to time.

some of these so called websites are not actual council sites. You need to find what sites the local councils used, then apply to be on their approved list. Years ago we trolled through so many so called council sites, only to be finally told by a council architect, where they source their contracts from. So my advice to be upfront and ask the council technical dept, for the approved site.

Thanks for the advice lads. I've seen a couple of the sites that seem to list the planning applications so I'll go down the route of giving the local council a quick call to get the official location to make sure we are getting the right information.

Each Local Authority should have an on line site to allow residents to view applications. Such details are open to the public.

From "the other side of the fence" we have a planning application and approval in place. Unsolicited letters included:

Travis Perkins
2 builders
1 plumber

We ignored the lot!
