Electricians Blog - Blogging about Electricals and Electricians

Our Electricians Blog is one of our newer areas on the forum. We have been blogging for years on and off but now we have a standalone domain for it, so we will be increasing our blog posts drastically over the coming months.

Easy MCS

Easy MCS and their competitors. Through years of managing electrical advice websites we have found one or two things to be factual in all cases when reading a blog. One; if it says ‘world leading’ or ‘number one’ then it nearly always is NOT world leading or number one.

Electricians Forums, The Worlds Number One Electrical Advice Website, is happy to provide MCS Accreditation advice to all who seek it.

Two; there are always better companies doing the same thing, it’s a fluid situation. As management and directors change and move around, so do the company practices and so on.

Easy MCS is one of the companies that appear to be saying a brand named “Talk.ElectricianForum.co.uk” is the “Number one forum for electrical advice” when we all know it’s far from it. Even electriciantalk.com statistically has more traffic, more electrical advice, and more members than talk electrician forum.

Easy MCS | MCS Accreditation

Here are some of the Easy MCS related forum threads / electrical advice.

Easy MCS

Easy MCS – Step One

Easy MCS are one of many many MCS accreditation firms that exist online.

MCS Easy – Step Two

Some have been around a lot lot longer than Easy MCS

Easy MCS - Easy MCS Accreditation Systems Limited
Easy MCS Systems

EZ MCS supplied MCS Accreditation services to the electrical industry for a while via ElectriciansForums.net. Though it worked for a small amount of time, there tended to be a fair amount of feedback related to the company that eventually ended up in a parting of company.

MCS now falsely claim that Talk.ElectricianForum.co.uk (TEF) are the number one electrical advice forum online.

The fact is, every visitor to the website, and ours, as forums, can see which one has the most advice threads, the most members, the most traffic, etc.

And time and time again we at electriciansforums.net nail the competitors not only by a bit, but by a factor of 10.

(Stats to be inserted here).

UK Tiling Forum

UK Tiling Forum

There’s a UK Tiling Forum knocking about that has a bit of competition from Tilers Forums.

Pre-2006 there was only a couple of tiling advice forums online, and one was TileForums.com, owned by a training centre called Professional Independent Training Techniques who ran tiling courses and sold tiling tools.

The other one was John Bridge’s Ceramic Tile Advice Board, based in Canada but covering the USA too. Their tilers are called ’tile setters’. And their tile adhesive is called ‘mud’. Other than that, it’s pretty much all the same stuff.

Schluter are out there, Kerdi are out there. Some tool names are out there too. So it’s sort of okay. But there needed to be a good UK one that wasn’t biased towards any one training centre or brand name. BAL adhesives tried to setup one and it failed miserably.

UK Tiling Forum for All Types of Wall and Floor Tilers

No matter what your skill level, there’s a UK Tiling Forum out there for you. You can try them all but you’ll only find one reliable enough to stay with. TilersForums.com.

Starting out in 2006, Tilers Forums quickly became the focus point for the UK Tile Industry.

Tiling Advice was sought by many types of wall and floor tilers, tile shop owners, adhesive representatives, underfloor heating installers etc etc.

UK Tiling Forum TilersForums.com
TilersForums.com’s What’s New Page Active as Always

TilersForums.co.uk was the forum online after TileForums.com.

Owned by myself, Dan, again. This time I had a chance to create a forum that was not connected to any training centre, not connected to any brand, and people could speak freely about anything they wanted to.

Some problems with this:-

  • Companies selling tiling tools would provide them for free to members who would then leave reviews on them – problem is they wanted more free ones so the reviews were always awesome ones. But fake. Not real world reviews from somebody who has paid for the tool.
  • Companies selling adhesives would sign up and pretend to be a tiler, leave replies to threads recommended the brand they worked for, and rendering all of their posts biased.
  • Moderators would eventually assume that rather than doing the volunteering to give back to the website and community which was the reason they always wanted the role, they then had some sort of ‘power’ that nobody had given them, and expected special treatment from everybody at all levels.
  • Cliques would appear. Tags would be wanted by “mates” so “mates” would vote on who got the new tags. If a very good tiler had fallen out with one of the regular forum members, they would never get the tag or be part of the clique.
  • The forum grew so popular and big that it required special hosting on dedicated servers using speciality services such as those offered by huge protection companies that banks use, such as CloudFlare.com, to root out bad traffic – this is where costs start to mount up.

Awesome Feedback for Electrical2Go – Forum Sponsors of Electricians Forums – The World’s Largest Electrical Advice Website

Electrical2Go have 2,509 reviews with an average of 4.6/5. That’s an awesome but honest review count.

They are sponsors of Electricians Forums. Which is a privately owned business that requires sponsorship revenue to stay online for free for its 50,000 electricians. Without sponsors, our forum would either have to have a shop, so it would render the advice biased therefore not be a honest forum, or we would need to charge members to register – and that doesn’t work.

We thank Electrical2Go and all of our other sponsors for supporting us.

But we really need our members to support our sponsors too! So please please always buy from one off our sponsors if they sell something you require yourself or for a customer.

Tiling Advice

Tiling Advice and Tiling Project Management

Tiling Advice and Tiling Project Management with a Personal Approach

When you’re looking online for Tiling Advice you get a minefield of information, usually online shops with blogs that just want to tell you about ‘The Top 5 Bathroom Tiles This Season’ and the likes. Then there are the forums, the blogs, the training courses, the associations for tiles (what?!) and bathrooms (what whaaaat?).

Usually they have a slant. For our forums, it’s been very hard to manage the pro-sponsor but fair-actual-tradesperson-recommendations which can be company reps disguising themselves as traders themselves though never having touched a tool or not wore a tie.

I think we’ve managed that, well, unlike forums owned by somebody with a financial interest in the industry, such as ones owned by training schools and private colleges, or ones owned by actual suppliers – ours has stayed online for around 15 years now.

It’s still hard though to find what advice online to trust.

So TilingAdviceLive.co.uk have come up with something. You get a bespoke FREE OF CHARGE service where they will help you plan your tiling project from start to finish. Or do as little as you need them to do if you’ve already got some ideas and contacts and even tiles and adhesives.

They use their awesome contacts from the tile industry that they’ve gained over the years. All the people working on the project are doing it for free for now. With a hope that one day there would perhaps be some profit in the agent type setup and share discounts on tiling tools, tile adhesives, tiles etc from their contacts, with the customer/homeowner/project manager/quantity surveyor/architect/specifier – Did I mention it’s a free service?

Checkout their website if you’re looking for tile project advice service, but with an awesome difference and a personal taste to your project.

ElectriciansForums.co.uk Updated October 2020

I’ve updated the .co.uk domain to include its own blog, tell us what you think about it.

Nothing too fancy. It’s using a free template via WordPress. It has its own stats now and some handy basic blog posts so far but I have plans for it to be much much more than what it is right now.

Some other website we’re working on will be announced and launched soon too. I think those will come in handy.

ElectriciansForums.co.uk was the domain we used from 2006 to 2019. So it’s important to me. I couldn’t just not use it. So here it is. Have a click around, make sure you visit the fancy homepage. I don’t think it looks too bad myself. 🙂
