Why is it when you cross connect the conductors at each leg and then test continuity, the result is one quarter of the combined resistances of the legs? I am usually pretty good at seeing how/why calculations work out, but just cannot in this case get my head around why the value measured is a...
Just had a PIR done for a house we were hoping to buy.
The house - victorian/edwardian terrace - has 8 circuits and the wiring is approx 20yrs old according to the PIR.
The report gives the same reading for ALL circuits. Live-Live is 1.01 Mohms and Live-E is 0.17 Mohms. Continuity Polarity...

Ok....I'm clearly in a minority on this. So to all the guys on here who install small scale TT systems some questions.
What value of Ra do you accept? What values of Ra do you aim for? How far do you go to achieve those values? If you cant achieve your desired value (ie values comparable to a TN...
Can some one explain if your pscc value is say 4.6ka well in gn3 it says that your protective device must not be less than that value so say the protective device was 5ka how would the protective device trip if it's fault current was only 4.6ka please explain cheers lads
Could someone please confirm the +/- values of voltage supply in the UK. (With a reference, now I’m pushing my luck)!
I’ve always worked on –5% to + 7.5%. the first plants I worked on were all supplied at 11400V so all transformers had the taps set at +2.5%.
I have looked and it’s like...
Hello,
I have my practical 2391 test on Friday and have been told by the examiner that we will be required to complete the calcuation for the maximum operating temperature for Zs. I am unsuse what to do with the calculation.
From guidance notes three (second example down, pg 113), it...
If I have a very low Ze Reading ie. 0.06 ohms and a Zs Reading on a 40amp shower circuit of 0.1 ohms under fault conditions for instance dead short at pull cord could this cause the main incoming fuse to blow before the mcb trips?? Thanks any input would be appreciated.
I am going through my college notes for my AM2 starting tomorrow and i am struggling to find the table which shows allowable R1+R2 values i only have the new green books to hand any advise would be great however i think it is the old red books that are provided, i have a feeling i am missing...
A client of ours are having an 800kva optimiser installed presently.
So its got me thinking, as being as its basically another transformer (dare i say an isolating transformer? although i stand to be corrected!), will this effect the existing Zs values throughtout the installation? Rather like...
hi chaps, could some bright spark help me out here, i have loads of periodics comming up and am getting fed up of looking up zs values for new and old MCBs, i kind of know the basic maths behind the values but could someone clarify how to work it out on site so
max zs values for type 1,2,3 mcbs...
Not trying to nit pick....but.
Table 41.3 max Zs etc are at 100% values whereas GN3 table B.4 show 80% values but some of the values in GN3 are not even close to being rounded up.
For example a type C 32 amp bsen60898 = 0.72 in regs book
GN3 =0.62 for the same device.
but 0.72x 0.8=0.58 at best...
Hi. I have taked out a Tesla capacitor control box from a lake, it had totally melted! The control panel is underated for the pump it controls.
Anyway I can get the correct rating control box but the capacitor uF value is different. The original one is 35uF and the new one would be 60uF.
Is...
Is anyone aware of any evidence that performing very regular PIRs, e.g. yearly, is of any benefit?
Are there any trends that could usefully be determined from the measured values on the PIR?
Thanks
In amendment 1 of BS 7671 the BS1361 cartridge fuse is being replaced with the new BS88-3 fuse as part of over 700 changes. Another change is the replacement of the PIR form with the EICR form. My question is that after 1st January 2012 on the new EICR what version of BS7671 would have to be...

Does anyone have any experience in recording values of EFLI on circuits fed through a DB supplied via a UPS please? The meter shows the above scale arrow.
I understand that there will be no reference to the external earth due to the inverter inside the UPS but what will happen to the UPS...

Greetings,
ENW are now quoting figures of 0.8 for the maximum value for tncs (or pme, whichever you prefer.)
Our company have always reported high Ze figures directly from the property, (no different to anyone else in the same position)and UU have always responded to high readings, but since ENW...
Hi, above is a picture of some measurements I have taken, and there is a task underneath it that asks me to "Comment on the measured values obtained". I'm not really sure WHAT it is I have to comment on, could someone help me out please?
Thanks a lot. :)
