If I turn off the breaker and measure the voltage across the breaker (upper and lower screws), the voltage is around 180 volt. If I measure the breaker's upper screw and the grounding bar of the breaker box, the voltage is 220.
What is the actual voltage and why is the discrepancy? Thanks.
Yesterday I had a call out to a 3 way switched top landing light which had a bayonet CFL bulb in it. Turn light off at either switch and lamp continued to flash every second or so. The wiring looked ok so I assumed (maybe too soon) an induced current issue but then a family issue meant I had to...
I've had my car for about a year now and I've noticed when I drive that the voltage goings all over the place from around 13.5 then can dip down to 12.0 even into the 11. 's
My A/C Condenser Fan has been burnt out and not working since I bought the car and I recently took it out and unplugged...
Hello All,
I keep a Martindale VT7 voltage indicator in my kit bag as a rough an ready check for live then check for dead before I work on a circuit.
Today I've had a situation where the VT7 indicates > 50 V on a light switch fascia plate (Schneider Lisse Deco) but when I check this with my...
The project: Install 12VDC 3 Watt Low voltage LED pathway lights, one every 20', along a 420' boardwalk through a mangrove forest. There are 24 lights and to minimize taps in the main line they will be installed in groups of 3 with one light at the tap, one light 20 feet behind and one 20 feet...
Hi everyone,
Which proving unit kit would you recommend? Obviously would be better to don't spend a fortune. Kewtech, Megger, Fluke o Martindale?
Thanks
I decided, having lived with using a live circuit, to buy a proving unit. I opted for a Kewtech Prove 4 which covers 5 voltages between 690volts and 50 volts. The device starts at 690 volts which is ok for my Megger 2 pole tester. My fluke clamp meter has a limit of 600 volts. The second problem...
So I recently installed a new circuit to my loft as a dedicated burglar alarm and cctv circuit. When checking polarity and voltage with my test lamps/voltage indicators it didnt trip the rcd when testing live to earth and neutral to earth. It's an rcbo which works when using the functional test...
Hello there!
Simple question, I have energy meters like those:
https://www.zelec.fr/details-compteur+d+energie+monophase+direct+45a-155.html
this one is on a french website, but the operation is simple. This one in particular uses an optocoupler 27 Vdc for the pulses, but what is the voltage...
Was recently at a job where the dishwasher was getting a voltage through it, checked the spur and the cpc was disconnected. Understand the reason that’s it’s became live is because the cpc was disconnected, what I want to know is why has that caused the dishwasher to have a voltage through it...
We've been tasked to run power to some electric motors on some pumps and the building is currently 120/208vac 3ph. The motors are 230/460vac 3ph. Instead of getting new motors that run on 208vac, they're asking if we can get a transformer to step up the voltage from 208vac 3ph to 240vac 3ph. The...
I need a help from members.
My transformer from JBL Sub Active woofer has failed. It 230 V primary and secondary no voltage details mentioned. It has five wires and center is ground.

Hello guys,
I live in Europe (240v) and I've recently purchased a Line Interactive AVR 1000VA 600W UPS with in order to protect my new PS5 gaming console and TV. The PS5 (max 200w) and 42" LED TV (max 120W) are the only things connected to the UPS. If a video game is playing on console (to draw...
Hello electricians,
My current ncv indicator I think has had it, and wanted an upgrade. I’ve seen this Sagab VOLTSTICK LV50 AC Voltage Detector | eBay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sagab-VOLTSTICK-LV50-AC-Voltage-Detector/193808447576?hash=item2d1fe23858:g:jSQAAOSw-wZf2zTy on eBay and wanted...
Hello im currently doing the 2391 online I have failed 4 times but I realise there are variations to the voltage drop calculation could someone help me to know what the variations are to the voltage drop calculation I know the basic 1 thats fine but its the other ways for instance multiplying or...
My cheap and cheerful voltage tester packed up just before Christmas, so need to replace it (It lasted longer than the more expensive one I had before that broke at the cable joint to the second probe).
As we know, GS38 tips can be a pain, so I normally keep them off so that I can actually test...
Hello guys,
just looking for a bit of advice, I’d like to be able to use a voltage tester at home when required.
Are there any good videos or tutorials?
thank you
The injectors are receiving voltage and are clicking (audible test), the resistance is amazingly consistent among all 4 (13.8 ohms each). Continuity is excellent. When I unplug the connectors, turn the circuit on (without starting the car-ignition on) and DMM - probe to one terminal and DMM +...
