im about to spend £260 for a 17th edition course. im 18 before i do this does anyone know if i can get this funded by the government or anything thanks - mike

You may be able to get it funded, best to ask a local college. I was lucky enough to do the 17th at the end of my level 3 2365 at college for £35.

Finished 2365 level 3 last year as we managed to do it in a year. It was hard work as we didn't start any of the assignments till April. 17th is easy , we had a weeks notice and I just did a few exam simulations. Just make sure you label main sections and don't close your book.

Don't spend a penny Mike ! As the others have said, you have just just completed core training qualifications under the 17th edition and you are not required to get a separate certificate to say you know your way round the regs, your 2365 is proof of this. Save your pennies for the amendment 3 update.

If you do your nvq3 to the 17th then send off for your jib card it will have 17th edition slapped on the back of it.... if a potential employer asks for your 17th them show them that !!!!

you wont always get asked if your upto date.

the guy I usually work with trained to 15th and he has never updated since.

i am so confused right now i had no idea about this. we constantly had the colleges saying your next step is the 17th o.o

I spoke with the NICEIC about this.
They would still require the separate exam.

To the OP, it seems if you want to be JIB graded for more commercial type work then you don't need a separate 17th edition qualification, but if you want to join NICEIC for domestic notifiable work (and I'm guessing the other competent persons schemes are the same) then you should look for a college that will let you do the exam only option.
