Asbestos electric meter?

HI, I had an electrical engineer come to
Fit a smart meter yesterday. They failed it and refused stating my meter board is asbestos. I am not sure it is as I have a digital meter which were fitted in the 90’s I believe and asbestos was banned then. Any ideas??

How old is the actual property?

The original meter may have been changed to the digital one in the 90’s, but the installer either didn’t realise this was asbestos, deemed it NOT to be asbestos or was ignorant to the dangers and just had to fit so many meters per day to get paid.

Hi, the guy who came today who fitted the isolator said this was not asbestos its just finer board. I am still concerned though..

I think its 1950's and its also ex-council and I know all them things scream asbestos too!!

There meter has a install record for 2002. The Scottish board came over not so long ago to fix a fault also...

Your problem is, now you have been told that it is likely to be asbestos,
You have a duty of care to anyone who works in the area of it.

It needs to be tested before any further plans can be made.

Isn't the meter board the property of the supplier / DNO?

Yes and they are saying it’s not asbestos it’s fibre board but I still have engineers saying it’s asbestos
