i went to a job today which was to change a consumer unit , i removed a old crabtree rccb which the tails entered into when i unscrewed the rccb from the wall and lifted it clear of the tails i noticed that the live tail seemed to drop from the base of the meter .
on closer inspection i could see that there was only a couple of strands of copper holding into the meter , the supplier was called and after a 30 min wait on the phone agreed to send someone over .
when the guy came and took the tails out of the meter it was clear to see that whoever had fitted the meter tails had stripped the outer with their crops and scored the inner conductors ,on the neutrals it was clear to see the score marks that the crops had made .
the meter was only a couple of months old .
