Discuss DeWalt XRP DC988L1 18V Li-Ion Cordless Combi Drill in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

To be fair for the money it is a great value drill. It is the XRP version which I believe means it has a fully metal gearbox (Solid) and it also comes with a metal chuck which again adds to the longivity of the drill. However 1 battery would cause problems for most trade users as you are unable to use the drill whilst it is charging, rather than alternate 2 batteries.

This Bosch 18V Li-Ion Combi + 3 batteries - NoLinkingToThis, Where the Trade Buys would be better, although the batteries are only 1.3a, you have 3 to keep alternating. And with Bosch you get 3 years warranty.

Don't think Dewalt is as good as they used to be, ive got a 18v combi drill and a 28v nano drill/ chisel. Both have been back to dewalt to be repaired within 6 months of purchase, gearing went on both. The torque setting on the 18v keeps sticking. I wont be buying another dewalt

All my powertools are Bosch and they seem solid. If your buget allows you would be better buying a drill with 2 x 2.6ah batteries but for £200 the screwfix one is a great buy.

For £279 here Bosch GSB 18VE2-LI Cordless Combi Drill Li-Ion 18V : Buy Bosch GSB 18VE2-LI Cordless Combi Drill Li-Ion 18V at Axminster Power Tool Centre you get 2 x 2.6 batteries

or here at £255 Bosch Bosch GSB18VE-2LI 18V Turbo Tough Li-ion Combi Drill | Combi Drills | Combi Drills | Drills and Screwdrivers | Cordless Power Tools | Power Tools | Tooltray.com

Hope this helps

I think Baza has been a bit unlucky. I have a Dewalt 18v combi drill, 2 years old, its worked its wotsits off in that time and is still in top condition, a bit battered and bruised but still in perfect working order, i would have another without hesitation.

Cheers.....Howard

Borrowed a mate's makita 18V combi and fell in love with it, well balanced, comfortable and the battery lasted for ages.
Just a little out of my price range at the moment

I have that drill and have used it for a little while now, bought it from screwfix for the same price. they were also offering £60 off the price of a 2nd battery (£99 instead of £159) but I didn't take it up. The drill will still work with the old style NiMh batteries, and the charger included will charge them too. So if you needed a 2nd battery while the Li-on one was charging (40 minutes) you could keep a couple of NiMh batteries with you just in case.
