Hi,
Is it a common practice nowadays to use cable tie bases and ties to fix cables above ceilings and along joist runs? I have used them commercially a fair bit but only once in domestic.
I've got a rewire/newbuild to do and it will take forever if I use clips for all power, lights, tv & data. I cant remember ever reading if the regs disprove of it or not?

Anyone familiar with this?

Cheers

Thankfully ...NO!! lol!!

If you are talking about the sticky cable tie bases they won't last long on wood and even on metal i haven't had much luck with them. Best to do as Tel says.^^^^^^^^^^^

the screw on cable tie brackets are a good idea. leave the ties loose till all cables are in.

Give me some credit......sticky bases lol! I'd be using the screw in bases, ties wont be to tight either once all cables are in as I dont want to add too much of a grouping factor.
Trying to keep clipping down as client wants downlights in all rooms, and a few data and coax cables too!

So there is no reason why I cant use them? Just as long as the cables are supported sufficiently.

Sorry about that! But stranger things than that have been said on this site!:stooge_curly:

Only problem with screwing the bases is that if you use your drill with a screw bit some times the screw will go through the tie base as they are not that thick. If you get the larger of the bases you can use a small flat head plasterboard nail, with something like a center punch, nail or similar and a hammer to knock the nail in.

Bit of Bandit wire with screws through them to make a loop or bang a clip in the wood , feed a cable tie through it then just feed cables through the cable tie . Works well for us .
